The official NFL thread

OH my God

instead of darth vader and scary halloween costumes in the stands, those raider fans oughta wear clown suits

or heck, just putting bags over their heads would do

Hmmm....where'd you get that idea?

Jackson was awful. Why were the Vikes carrying the ball down the middle all game?

Give the ****ing ball to Peterson and let him run.

Raiders look pathetic, like the shinny version of hockey.

Can anybody spare some offensive linemen for my Rams? Absolutely embaressing outing yesterday,.

Well, we just joined the club you reside in- Unfortunately-

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/football/pro/dolphins/sfl-dolinj090909,0,7173610.story

DAVIE - After a preseason of not incurring any serious injuries, the Dolphins revealed today that rookie starting right guard Donald Thomas will be out for the season with a left foot injury.

Thomas, the sixth-round pick out of Connecticut who was labeled as the most pleasant surprise of training camp by General Manager Jeff Ireland and called a, "Godsend,'' by team vice president of football operations Bill Parcells, was placed on injured reserve Tuesday

Absolutely pathetic.. UNBELIEVABLE. I loved that guy, he graded out the best of all the lineman in the first game with a 90% grade. I am shocked.

It is NO secret that when you lose a key cog in your O-line other teams start to exploit it.

Heck, Jets fans know what I'm talking about.. They let go of Pete Kendall (the left guard) last year and their whole line was in shambles all year long last season. It was a hit parade on their QB, and a pathetic ground game to boot. One GUY, just one guy can destroy the chain. One bad link in the chain totally eff's up an O-line.

Look at the Rams, they lose two guards in preseason this yr, and they got their ass beat 38-3.. The Eagles totally exploited that weakness..... Look at the Colts, they lost Jeff Saturday at center and their starting guard before the season started, the Bears blitzed the heck out of them up the middle and the Colts all of a sudden had a "pop gun" offense.

There is no mercy in the NFL, no forgiveness. Losing a key guy on the O-line not only affects that position, but the two guys beside him. Because they have to compensate as teams will put good people up against the new guy who isn't ready.. And they will BLITZ right at that spot.

Lord have mercy, Bill Parcells was right when he said good big men who can play on the line are so hard to find..

This news just ruined my day. Boy that is tough news coming off the first game of the season. He was our best late round draft gem since Zach Thomas. And now he's out for the year after the first game. Ouch

Big news out of Jacksonville. Guards are falling like flies this season.. Both their guards could be out for the season.

Manuwai is already done for the season with a torn ACL.. In pre-game warmups Sunday Williams ruptured his biceps (usually a season ender).

That's both their starting guards, DONE for the year

If that's not enough, starting center Brad Meester is out for another 4 weeks.

They are already 0-1 after losing to Tennessee.. Their whole interior O-line is shot. As a matter of fact, one of their other O-lineman was shot, literally- ( so there is a guy out who they could have moved to guard from backup tackle)

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1002156/richard_collier_jaguars_lineman_in.html?cat=14

so now the Jags have to play a resurgent Buffalo team next week who have an absolute stud at DT in Marcus Stroud (who is a former Jaguar and you know he will play lights out against them), and then the Jags have to go to Indianapolis the following week.. WOW.

For a team that relies on the running game, having your whole interior line out is huge!!

The AFC is WIDE open this year when you consider Brady out too.

Also Merriman is confirmed out for the season. He tried to play Sunday but decided that he wouldn't last the season with the knee tear.

For those who missed the game last night.. Here's a Video of Eddie Royal's amazing debut for the Broncos last night.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jITqHgWFFf4

His body control was amazing. Superb shiftiness. Great hands, Fantastic route running, very good at creating separation, and showed a tremendous amount of poise.... That kid looked like a pro bowl veteran out there, not a rookie.. What's unreal is that he went up against one of the best cover corners in the league in DeAngelo Hall and Asomugha. You just don't see WR's come into the league as rookies and dominate like that.

It's official. Mo Williams is out for the year-

http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/09/10/another-jag-goes-to-ir/

Without their entire starting interior line out vs Tennessee, Garrard got sacked 7 times and the Jags ran for a paltry 33 yards.. With Marcus Stroud and the boys next, it should be a long day for JAX. Garrard will be running for his life as Stroud will be looking to exact revenge against the team that traded him. And Buffalo's defensive front looked outstanding last Sunday vs Seattle. I bet the Bills are lickin their chops this week in practice.

In other news, the Saints #1 receiver Marques Colston is out for 6 weeks, time for recent high pick Robert Meachem to step up.. And 49'ers QB Alex Smith has been confirmed out for the year.. O'Sullivan will stay as starting QB.

Seattle guard Rob Sims is out for the year with a torn pectoral muscle from Sundays game vs the Bills. Not good news for a team that already has a decimated wide receiving corps.. Indianapolis Colts defensive lineman Ed Johnson has been arrested for drug possession, and Tony Dungy confirmed he will not play Sunday -- More problems for the Colts who can't stop the run.

And last but not least on the injury front- If the Browns secondary wasn't bad enough, their best player in the secondary starting safety Sean Jones will be out for several weeks after having arthroscopic knee surgery . His primary backup Brodney Pool was out of the lineup week 1 because of severe concussion symptoms.

LN,

First off, sorry to hear about Thomas, nothing sucks worse than losing a guy on the line.......especially this early on. On the bright side, you're rebuilding, and it'll give someone else, the chance to step up, and get some valuable experience.

Now, onto this week..............interested to hear your breakdown of the Jets-Pats game this week, and how you see it going down.

The secondary for NE is not so special. They lost their starting two corners from a year ago, including Asante Samuel the Pro bowler.. And lets not forget their safety (Harrison) is slow as molasses.. I think that is a good matchup for Coles, Cotch and Keller

I see a big day for the Jets passing the ball.. NE will have to bring the heat on Favre early and often to have a chance to win.

On the other side of the ball I like the Jets D against Cassel. I think you can attack NE's offensive line. I mentioned that they have looked weak on the O-line recently and that's an area you can exploit. The jets should concentrate on stopping the run because I don't think Matt Cassel can beat the Jets on his own.

Agreed.......Coles and Cotch should give that secondary fits, and cause them plenty of problems....Cothc in particular should have a huge day.

I think we'll see Chris Baker a fair bit this week as well (more than Keller).....and possibly more of Leon Washington on some screen's, and dump off's........he's a huge weapon if you can get him into open space.

Not that I believe it...........but apparently BB's said that he doesn't think putting tons of pressure on BF, is the way to beat him.......because of his ability to make you pay.

....but I'm with you, with that secondary, I can't invision them wanting to give him much time to find holes in their coverage.

I'm going to be real interested to see how our O-Line does as well, and if we're able to use the running game effectively at all against them..........this is a real big litmus test for them, and could tell alot about how the Jets season is going to play out.

Kerry Rhodes always kicks it up a notch against the Pats.......so watch for him to be a force as well.

If we're able to stop the run, without having to stack the box, I think we'll be in good shape..........similar to our O-Line, this could also be a big test for our D-Line, as it'll be interesting to see how Jenkins is able to do clogging up the middle, and if we're able to limit their success running.......(with Cassell back there, you gotta think they'll be running a ton)..........

I like Calvin Pace to have another big game, and cause some havoc in the backfield.............also think this is possibly the game Vernon Gholston get's his first NFL sack.

Other great games this weekend should be SD @ Denver, Philly @ Dallas, Indy @ Minny. And again, I can't wait to see how Stroud reacts to Jacksonville trading him when he goes against that beaten and injury riddled Jacksonville O-line. That will be very interesting.

Denver looked hot last week (albeit against the raiders), and san Diego needs to avoid going 0-2 while on the road in a hostile environment.

Philly and McNabb (the way he is looking) against Dallas on Monday night. Are you kidding me ?!

The Colts and Vikings are trying to avoid going 0-2. Both teams have a lot of pressure.. Colts are used to playing in a dome. Should be interesting.

Is anyone going to watch the most hyped up "college game of the year" tonight ? #1 USC vs #5 Ohio State

IMO it will be very tough for Ohio State to beat USC in their own barn. But I will probably watch the first half to see if it's close before I decide to stay home to watch the 2nd half.

Here's a little write up on the linebacker matchup (both looking to go top 10 in the draft)-

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/pac10/0-2-77/USC-Ohio-State--LB-matchup-is-scary-good.html

No Wells for the Buckeyes in this game which is tough. Oddsmakers aren't giving Ohio any respect in this one plus USC is very public team which is why there favoured by 12-13 now

ok so given the matchups this is the money recovering week for me.

Going to put $5 on TB and SEA (point spread)

What do you think of the GB/DET game?

I'm taking the points with San Fran. Seattle is a complete mess right now on offence.

For the GB/DET game, the spread of GB-3 doesn't make any sense. It should be higher, which has me leaning towards Detroit. I think they will be a decent team this year, although there was no evidence of this in the first quarter of last week's game.
