The Official Post-Bitch 2025-26 Regular Season Thread

Kadri had to stay. He’s the guy we’ve been trying to get for 6 years.

He should’ve retired a Leaf unless you could get a Sundin for him.
I don’t recall anyone being happy with him after the second playoff suspension. Definitely easier to say now. It’s the return that killed us. Dubas fucked up big on that one.

nothing wrong with trading Kadri. he was a poor 3C, and got suspended again with the Avs.

the issue was the terrible return. a defenceman who couldn't defend and a 3C that couldn't play centre.

if the Brodie trade had gone through that Kadri nixed we'd never have talked about it again, except for another ex Leaf winning with another team

Everyone was saying Kadri for a d was a no brainer at the time. He was the 3c and wasn't being used efficiently and they had like 2 half decent d under contract at the time: Rielly and Muzzin. And that was it. That was their d corps.

But obviously in hindsight it would have been nice to keep him. Even if they did the trade for Brodie instead of Barrie, they still were able to sign Brodie the following summer. They could have had both.

Nah, giving up on Kadri early for getting suspended defending teamates was dumb. Thas not a reason to trade a guy.

Sure if you could have got a better player, like a top pair d it made sense. But the whole “you can’t trust Kadri he has to go” that led to the trade was poor management.

The fact that he became a playoff stud and key contributor to a cup winner was hardly a surprise

Kadri was injured for a large part of his first two years in Colorado. And suddenly he was 31.

Then he broke out, had a career year and won the Cup. That’s when the regret here went parabolic

Because we're reactionary fans who were mad at another early playoff exit, and of course it was fucking Boston again.

Our front office is supposed to be smarter than us.
Or at least smarter than me. I liked the trade at the time. We all did though. I didn't realize how shit Barfoot were.

My thesis was that kadri's last year of Toronto was year 1 of what I felt may be a steady decline. He had a drop off that year.

So that part was wrong. And then the other part of thinking Barrie and kerfoot were good was always wrong. I was excited about "years of control" and prime age of kerfoot --> Dumb. I was also excited about Barrie being a genuine top 4 d --> dumb. Dubas had the same thoughts obviously but he was not alone.

Yeah, I was down with the Barrie propaganda at the time, expected him to be a RHD version of peak Mo, etc.

But, his nerdies were kind of bad apparently and he wasn't that guy. A smart front office should know more than me.
