Re: To Tank or not to Tank, that is the question

No tanking.

We've been forever rebuilding here... It's been decades since 1993 and we're obviously not good at it. :couch

There will be teams lining up for Plekanec. His two-way play is top 5 in the league. Sure the Habs are slumping but if you think he wouldn't be sought after you don't know hockey. He's q coach's wet dream.

that is true, he will do whatever he is asked, play with whomever the coach throws at him, and will not complain

Except for maybe a few years here and there, we've never really "rebuilt."

We most definitely haven't been rebuilding lately. We made the final 4 two years ago and the final 8 last year.

Re: To Tank or not to Tank, that is the question

What is the reasoning behind not tanking? we're going to barely make it into the playoff to get eliminated in the first round in possibly 4 straight game and call it a season? I'd rather miss the playoff this year and help our team longtherm.

Re: To Tank or not to Tank, that is the question

Depends for me, if we "tank" to get a top 4-7 pick sure. But "tanking" to draft 13-15 doesn't excite me.

tanking for one season - okay
i just do not want to make a oiler habit of this

If we can get a Dylan Larkin at #15 then it wouldn't be that bad. But then again if we're drafting #15 that means we made the playoffs.

We can do like the Lightning and tank every few seasons or so.

2011-2012 and this season. Sounds like TB . . . except they drafted Stamkos and Hedman with their two top picks.

Will an orangutan hairpiece be attached to the red cap?

We need to time our tanks better.

Next year looks like a pretty decent draft at the top. The Galchenyuk year was a bit of a down year.

And for Bolduke, ending up in the 13-15 draft spot would actually be an improvement over where we are now. Right now we're sitting at around the 10th overall pick (11th based on points, but 2 teams below us are close in points with games in hand). Our goal differential should have us in the playoffs, but we've been a lot worse.

At this point, I'd say our likely final placement would be:
-If Price doesn't play again this year, we should be pretty close to a top-5 pick.
-If he does come back, but later, I don't really see us finishing top-5, but somewhere in the 7-10 range is reasonable.
-If he is back in 2 weeks, and is back to how he was before, we will likely fight for the last playoff spots.

I do think that we won't necessarily get swept if we do sneak into the playoffs. But we'd need to sneak into the first wildcard to avoid Washington. If we could do that, then we would likely play Florida in the first round, which we could easily beat.

Re: To Tank or not to Tank, that is the question

Gallant was not let go. He left for a better position somewhere else.

They all did (Gallant, Muller, Boucher).

One can say that Martin and Therrien are progress stoppers...:seeya:

Re: To Tank or not to Tank, that is the question

Muller failed and one could argue so did Scarface and his 0-5 system.

Re: To Tank or not to Tank, that is the question

Gallant is only doing well because MT taught him well.
