Top 50 NHL Players

Subbans defense is consistently underrated.

Especially when people say Duncan Keith is one of the leagues best defensive d men.

Watch keith more... the guy is really bailed out a lot by seabrook and not near as good defensively as subban.

Every d make mistakes but Keith makes a mistake and its like no one notices. Subban makes a mistake and cbc is highlighting it. The tsn panel is discussing it. Its all over rds. Etc... etc...
 
It's why I take PK over Hot karl any day....his defense is better and he's more physical.

Hot Karl is a pure offensive dman...it's why it baffles me that this guy will get Norris consideration with such mediocre defensive ability.
 
Because defense is so much easier than offense.

It is why like only 7 players scored 80 points this year.

Now if the offense was even close I might agree...but give me the guy that scores like an elite forward...and not just on the PP.

I dont even know..but I assume Keith won the Norris this year?

Your point makes sense but in all honesty what is the most sought after commodity by GM's...probably top six caliber centers and first and foremost #1 dmen.

Finding the ultimate dman that combines a good amount of offense with above average defensive and physical prowess is the ultimate.

For me those are the building blocks to winning teams...you need that stud dman that will do it all.

Can't say Karlsson can do what Weber, Keith or Doughty do in all three zones.
 
By the way, you do know that Keith doesn't play all that much against the other team's top lines, right? Quenneville keeps him (mostly) off so that he can be against inferior competition in hopes of getting more goals. Niklas Hjalmarsson & Johnny Oduya are the ones usually on against the other team's best lines.

Reason why? Two reasons: Duncan Keith has a tendency to occasionally ****up in his own end (while he's not incompetent, he's not a model of consistency either) and that he's better served pushing the play towards the other team's zone which is easier to do when you're not always up against the other team's best lines.
 
Keith has also been pulled off the pk for the most part and the hawks went from a bottom 5 pk with him playing bug minutes to a top 5 one with hjarlmasson and oduya

Interesting article on a poll as to which players a panel of GMs, assts GM's, coaches and players would chose to build a team around.

Amazing that Ovechkin didn't even make the top 13 nor did Karlsson

Plus, check the last piece of the article that puts Galchenyuk as the top projected point producing franchise forward if holding a draft today

Interesting stat they note: In the history of the NHL, only 23 forwards have had as many or more Point Shares while playing more than 100 games over their first two seasons in the league before the age of 20

Sitting @ #23 (using the Point Shares system), is none other than Count's favorite gangsta...

A lot more people are going that direction and it has a lot to do with Toews just being better when it matters and this includes the Olympics

But I think I would lean towards Sid by a slight margin

Hum, 81 points in 93 playoff games vs 114 in 95 playoff games, I wonder who's better when it matters, like say in the playoffs.
 
This has all been shown to DK....he doesnt care because Toews is apparently good at the easiest part of hockey....defense.

Limiting to 100 games or more for players younger than 20 is kinda stupid IMO as it excludes players who entered the league at 19 (Gretzky, Lemieux, Trottier, Lindros). Here's the list for 60+ games :
