Trade Deadline

My wife and I went to town today for groceries, etc.

Got home around noon. I was going to have a bite to eat and follow the deadline coverage and this thread for my afternoon's entertainment.

Had a bowl of homemade chicken soup and some Breton crackers. Went to find a stream, started yawning and said: "Fuck it, I'm tired. I'm gonna lay down for a few minutes."

Got up about 15 minutes ago.

It's been a pretty good day.

Net Rating is far far from perfect, especially from a sheltered offensive dman like Timmins, but i'll just line up the current net ratings:

Bertuzzi 2 --- Matthews 25 --- Marner 16
McMann 0 --- Tavares 9 --- Nylander 14
Knies -1 --- Domi -3 --- Jarnkrok 0
Holmberg ?? --- Dewar -5 --- Robertson -1
(Gregor -11 --- Kampf -10 --- Reaves -12)

Rielly 5 --- Timmins 8
McCabe 3 --- Liljegren 5
Giordano 0 --- Brodie -2
(Benoit -2 --- Lyubushkin -10)
(Edmundson -8)
Not sure what Holmberg's rating is but iirc it was decent before this year and probably much better now. Probabkly a positive rating, but not very negative if it's negative.

The question is whether Keefe's gonna keep all 5 of the bolded in the lineup.
What question?

Why are you listing 2nds instead of 3rds and beyond, where we have almost entirely just crapped out.

I will say, I always like these kinds of mystery box young pickups.

Could he be like a Benoit type add where he actually contributes and becomes a lock, or just junk?

Seems like on paper he could be on the good side. I did like his speed in that video. I love fast guys.

I’m just glad they didn’t fire more 1st or 2nd round picks out the door. Seems like an upgrade on previous deadlines in that sense.

Starting to notice that Tre seems to be afraid of big moves.

Signing UFAs isn't too big a deal, as long as you wait them out to the last minute, I guess. But almost impossible to backfire unless you give term, though even with one year deals, Tre came close to a complete faceplant since Bertuzzi is having a gross year, Domi stinks, and Klingberg played one game.

He doesn't like trading too much either, and has only made minor deals to bring in no names like Benoit and Dewar, or push out no names like Lafferty.

He likes maintaining the status quo, hence zero thought at all to trading the big boys, and re-upped Matty and Nylander relatively quickly. No trading of the 1st or prospects like Cowan and Minten.

He won't even really part with guys Keefe seems to have no use for if they have any upside, hence leaving Robertson buried and not playing rather than see him play elsewhere.

All he'll stick his neck out for is to trade middle picks for depth like Babushkin and Edmundson. That might be as risky as it gets with him.

I mean, this seems to be the king of low-event GMing if there's ever been one.

Sure, because we don't know what day round one starts at the moment.
I've heard lacerated kidney as well as lacerated spleen but either way this is the type of injury where the person should be taking 4-6 MONTHS to recover from, before he even resumes practicing. If Stone plays this playoff season then the NHL is officially a joke and may as well get out of its partnership with the gambling industry because no one in their right mind would wager on a league as badly rigged as that.
