Yeah, I wasn't exactly looking to kick off a debate on Percy vs. Rychel as prospects either.

Rychel probably does have more value, but in general, except for the obvious busts like Biggs, Verhaeghe & McKegg, I'd prefer that we hang on to our own prospects and draft picks whenever possible, and that any additions to our prospect pool be picked up in NHL trades, like Kapanen & Leipsic were. And my point about not wanting to deal away defensive prospect depth at this point also stands.
 
I don't really see any of our Prospect Dmen outside of the guys we drafted this year that I wouldn't move for him.

Percy, loov, harringon, Valiev are all decent but none are irreplaceable with our scouts and number of draft picks.

Harrington could be have good value in a deal like this because he is the most nhl ready

It's not necessarily about which team originally drafted them, though I do think there's some merit to eventually having a bunch of players on your NHL roster who've come up the ranks and grown up in your organization together. I think that helps with the kind of team identity that Shanahan, Lamoriello & Babcock are trying to build here.

But moreso, if the team is in fact moving into a new era where drafting and player development are of paramount importance, I don't really see where dealing away prospects with NHL potential for pennies on the dollar fits into that. Especially when it's a player who hasn't really been given a real shot at the NHL level. Because let's face it----continuing with the Stuart Percy example, I seriously doubt that he's got any kind of significant trade value four and a half years after being drafted, with nine NHL games under his belt and an injury-plagued, wasted development year last season directly behind him.

If he was involved as part of an imaginary Kerby Rychel deal, Percy would only be part of the deal from Toronto's end---unless, unbeknownst to us, Jarmo Kekalainen has some Stuart Percy posters on the walls of his bedroom. So, I'd rather make the gamble of keeping him and seeing if he can turn into the second-pairing defensemen we hoped he could be, instead of shipping him out as part of a deal for a mid-level, unproven prospect from another organization.
 
Only Stuart Percy may or may not fit the mould of team and identity that Shanahan/Lamorello/Dubas/Hunter etc want. Remember when he was drafted none of them had any input into that choice.

Well, if you're going to invent stuff like this into the narrative, then of course it doesn't make sense. I don't think anyone, anywhere would suggest that trading prospects away for pennies on the dollar is ever a good idea.

Acquiring undervalued prospects from other organizations for limited ceiling prospects from your organization is fantastic asset management though.
 
If the initial report about us enquiring about rychel is correct it shows a couple things:

1. our management group likes the kid
2. they want to know what it would take to acquire him and
3. that we have assets in the organization that they would consider moving for him.

If a deal happens we can debate the value of what we gave up, but as of right now he would likly be the 3rd best prospect on our AHL team behind nylander and kapanen. Their isn't 1 Dman on our AHL roster i would hesitate in trading for him even if we had to add 4th or 5th round pick.

I'm pretty sure the invented narrative here is the idea that a straight-up Percy/Rychel swap (or something close to that) would be possible.

Sure, based on a previous rumour from ages past. I still don't get how you spin that into selling prospects off for pennies on the dollar....unless you're under a heavily misguided opinion that Percy is a superior prospect to Rychel.
 
What is the point of all this back and forth? Lets hope that if we do get Rychel it's for something worth even less than Percy.

One thing i don't like about McDavid is that he is such a vanilla typical hockey player. He's so bland. Can't even crack a smile for that pic. I'd be dying if someone brought me that artwork. Even in his interviews he's very monotone and bland.

That is probably the only thing i don't really 'like' about McDavid. Everything else he's a stud.

Thats interesting... is percy>harrington or Valiev?

Valiev is probably the highest ceiling of the three and harrington is probably the furthest along and safest prospect of the three.

Maybe i have a different opinion of percy than others but i don't see him being much more than a serviceable #5

He reminds me a lot of another formerly highly-touted player in that regard: Jay Bouwmeester. They're both introverts, very quiet, lead by example on the ice, but not going to be the kind of loud, boisterous, and sociable guys you'd expect from a player pegged for stardom.

I'd definitely be howling if a fan brought me such a ridiculously hilarious piece of personal art though.
 
I thought he was like that because he was young and shy and that he'd grow out of it. Some people just open up as they age and get more comfortable so we'll see if thats the case. Leading by example is one this thing but i feel a leader of leaders needs the charisma to back up the example. McDavid doesn't seem the alpha type.

He isn't on Bouwmeester level of awkward though, so i'll cut him a bit of slack. BUT for f*ck sakes smile for a picture.
 
Someone on the Habs board posted a tweet from a Habs writer suggesting a Drouin trade would take 2 of 3 of McCarron, Scherbak, Tinordi. What's the Leaf equivalent of that? Because I think I'd surely do that.

Based on where they were drafted, Percy and Gauthier.

Based on their talent, maybe Kapenen and Percy/Harrington.
