Updates and Rumours from around the League

I wonder how management feels about Gauthier. Under half a ppg thus far in his first season in the AHL. Do we value him as a bottom 6 big bodied defensive minded center? Do we value him enough to see him play a Paul Gaustad type role in the future?

I think his value to us from that standpoint surpasses any trade value he has. Those types usually get traded for mid round picks (Gaustad not withstanding as he garnered a 1st rounder from the Preds).

Tinordi is shit. McCarron is a pretty average prospect with likely 3rd line potential. Scherbak put up decent numbers in the q last 2 season and is hurt this year.

Thats a pretty shit package even if all 3 were combined. Drouin has star potential. I'd be surprised if any of those 3 become impact players in the NHL.

Someone on the Habs board posted a tweet from a Habs writer suggesting a Drouin trade would take 2 of 3 of McCarron, Scherbak, Tinordi. What's the Leaf equivalent of that? Because I think I'd surely do that.

That's tough to draw the equivalent of for us. Scherbak and McCarron, along with decent offensive ability, are big players...McCarron being huge. Offensively, they're pretty much the equivalent of Bracco & Brown. Tinordi is a ****ing plug though...so if it's one of those 2 and Tinordi, we could beat that....unless Tampa is looking for huge. If Stevie wants to get bigger, we can't help them.

McCarron and Scherbak come with the added recent 1st round pick label. Not sure how much weight that carries but to perception of a trade it might mean "2 recent 1st rounders for the struggling Drouin" narrative that Yzerman ass kissers would say.

Drouin is a guy that every team should be after if the price is right. This is likely a Marner level prospect that is available. Could be another Seguin to Dallas scenario.

McCarron and Scherbak are probably pretty close to the price.

Yzerman could want a defenseman instead of two forwards. But I can see two recent firsts and a mid-round pick ending up as the price. This is going to be a "two dimes and a nickel for a quarter" trade.

Those Habs prospects are going to be middle tier bums.

Yzerman is stupid if he gets conned into taking those two.

That'd be a full on Seguin situation in the Habs favor.

I never said that. I said I wouldn't overpay for him.

I'd love to add him for cheap and see if he pans out. I'd hate to part with the equivalent of two 1sts for him though.

That's what Montreal would be doing there. Adding him for (imo) next to nothing, and maybe stumbling upon a Seguin situation like Dallas did.

If we get the Pittsburgh 1st and Komarov pulls in another mid-round 1st, I'm pretty confident we do a lot better than McCarron and Orange Sherbert.

Hell, the Leafs might be able to get a mid-late first for Bozie with how well he's performed this season (largely sorting out his defensive issues most notably).

If Bozak can keep this up more or less for another six weeks, I have zero doubt we will get a 1st for him.

Phaneuf should also have some value, but not too much with that contract.

The only untradeable one is Lupul. He's about as stuck as one can get for the foreseeable future.

I'm not sure I'm as optimistic that we'll wind up with that many picks in the first round but the thought of giving Hunter that many lottery picks is really, really exciting.

Odds are low. How often do team end up with 4 1st rounders? Along with the picks we'd likely get for Winnik, Spaling, Polak, Mattias, Reimer.
