Updates and Rumours from around the League

Apparently, Lecavalier's made it clear he'll be retiring at the end of this season. Which is the only way it would make any sense for the Kings to take a flier on him with two years left on his deal.

Since it's not a 35+ contract, both Philly & LA will be clear of his cap hit as soon as he files his retirement papers with the league.

Anyone who thought the Leafs should take a run at Johansen can rest easy. Based on this trade, it's fair to say that CBJ's asking price from us probably started with Morgan Rielly.

When was the last time we've even seen a straight-up, blockbuster hockey trade like this one?

Makes a lot of sense for both teams. I like the deal better for Nashville, but given the situation the Blue Jackets were in they did as well as they possibly could moving Johansen.

I'm getting a bit of a yen for leaf rumours. May have to go read some HockeyBuzz vagaries so I have something to get excited about.

I guess this means that LA successfully got out from that contract? Never heard much follow up to that, but seems as though Richards didn't file a grievance or anything...

He filed a grievance. It was settled by an agreement outside of arbitration, and the NHL signed off on it.

LA didn't get everything they wanted, but they got a better deal than a normal course buy out. It was still kinda bullshit.

Sure beats BKerr's Montreal trash + 1st fevered dream :D

Yup I was wrong in that I didn't think they would get seth jones... good for them.

they did much better than previous trades in similar circumstances... ie Seguin, rick nash, jeff carter, o'reilly, kane, and others... kudos to kekalainen

(note i also didn't say montreal would get him, i was just giving a package that i thought was fair value based on those seguin, carter, kessel, o'reilly, kane etc... trades)

we need to start moving our guys. these wins are starting to pile up a bit too much for my liking.

Hopefully the Jones-Johansen swap is the first domino to fall and other teams start looking for depth to bolster their lineup.
