Give up pick 20+ the next 2 seasons, while getting a 1st in 27 from the Roy deal.

I'm sure you can technically argue the merits and downsides of each scenario, but the argument that chooses the Leafs lose the pick this year is dumb and wrong. When life hands you a top 5 pick, you stfu and take it. Every time.

Unless of course, you think they are definitely, without question, a bottom 3 team in the NHL for the next 2 seasons. But that would also be dumb and wrong, unless you decide to trade Matthews and Nylander. Which would also be dumb and wrong.

Treliving being one of the worst execs in the league and Berube being one of the worst coaches in the league kind of stumbled their way into us being this bad. Anything resembling competence in those positions and we're a bubble team at worst.
