The New Division

I can tell you we had way, way more regular season, playoff game and playoff series wins than you guys did. Hell, we had more playoff wins just last year than you guys have had in 8 years.
 
I was having fun perusing the TOR-OTT rivalry heydey. from 98-99 to 03-04. Just going down memory lane a bit to see if the facts agree with our memories of how the two teams matched up generally speaking over that period.

So far I've broken down the teams like this, and I'll probably try and do some numbers on them at some point. I've done some random numbers already but I'm not quite sure how to approach it yet.

roles changed over the years, and not all player changes were as clean as they look here, but I think this is a pretty good simple breakdown of each roster overall over that period. I didn't include anyone who was just a pure deadline rental, and some of the younger guys who didn't really get to establish themselves like Pilar, Poni, Schastlivy, Hnidy, and some old 1-season #6/7 dmen like manson, marchment, pitlick, diduck didn't make the cut either.

Your goaltending was better, and your key players played tougher in the playoffs than our did, with a few exceptions. On paper from top to bottom, our team was vastly more talented. Martin havlat was a third liner for us, for chrissakes. Sick.

Maybe you could say that when Yashin and co. were swept, but you really can't say it about the later teams.

Plus, your toughness was vastly overrated. You had Dummy of course, Corson well past his prime, Roberts well past his prime, Green and Antropuff who were only tough behind Dummy and Corson or the officials. Tucker who tried to play the part, but had little actual bite to go with his bark.

The same guys that couldn't beat you were able to beat Philly and NJ repeatedly, something you could never do.

That's hockey.

Insane. It's like you forget that we had Sundin, the best player on either team as our 22mpg centre. Never was Havlat anything less than your 3rd best winger, nevermind a "3rd line" winger by merit.
 
Yea, I never knew why the Leafs could seemingly get up for the Ottawa games...still happens today, to be honest.

Seems like it means more to them than it does the Sens, sadly. Always play balls out.

Your group of fairies showed up in one of the 4 series. 24 goals in 17 games across the other 3 series....but yeah, blame Lalime for not holding one of the highest scoring teams in the league to 1 goal a game.

They played like that against Philly & Jersey too for the most part, just came up short against them due to some incredible efforts by HOF'ers like Roenick, Brodeur, etc.
 
The Nieuwendyk goals were inexcusable.

The Sundin OT goal from the blue line was shit. Every goal MacAuley scored was shit, the Roberts 2 OT goal was shit.

Lalime sucked, and sucked hard. And again, our "fairies" beat up on Philly and NJ when your fairies always bitched out to them.

Who can explain it.

Martin havlat played on our third line behind Alfie and hoss. Vastly more talented.

The McCauley goal came after what should have been our winning goal was disallowed. McCauley was very, very skilled at pushing the net off its moorings at critical times in that series.
