The New Division

Havlat still plays on the 2nd/3rd line. He just wasn't as good as you guys thought he was. Same with most of the players on those teams.

Except for Hossa and Chara.
 
He was so elite that you got Tom Preissing for him.

There is certainly good reason why the team was never as good as you guys boasted it was. It just wasn't as good as you thought.
 
It's hard to overstate just how devastating Yashin's disappearing acts were. When your top player didnt give a $hit and ate up huge key minutes and did nothing while your goalie was letting in beach balls, you can't win.

Yes its very hard to win when your stars aren't good enough and your goaltending isn't good enough, and your depth isn't good enough. Real great team there.
 
It's also easy to lump everything on Yashin and Lalime and call it a day because they are universally hated and blamed for the Sens failures....not to mention out of the league now.
 
Yeah Lalime was so awesome that he was a back up (that he always should have been) until he faded into oblivion.

Yashin was fine in Long Island until he had his arm skated on.

It's funny how you guys always try to build Lalime up.
 
Forget Lalime and Yashin, the Sens real demise was terrible management. If they had kept by far their two best players, Hossa and Chara, they probably would have won a cup by now.

Revisionist history. Those were tight series. You have a future hall of fame goaltender and we had a guy letter in loopers from the half boards.

It was 90% lalime.

Put those teams in this NHL environment and they are a winner. Lots of talent, lots of skill.

The goalie still hurts them though.

We had the #1c and #1G, you guys didn't, yet you still always thought you were better. Niwadays, of course, yoi guys treat those two roles as mu h more important in the comparison. Funny.

As for goaltending..i'll crack out the numbers at some point....but the leafs' edge in starting goalie performance actually wasn't that big. The Sens' edge in backup goalie performance, though,was absolutely massive.

And yet never, at any point his career, has been able to earn the title of "first liner".

A marginal dangler who was able to rack up some decent years in a sheltered secondary/tertiary role, nothing more.

Now when we had the great alex mogilny on our third line, THAT was sick.

Joseph was a disaster after leaving toronto too. Funny how you guys always tried to build him up.

Belfour was a backup before cming to the leafs, and awful after leaving.
