Maybe, JUST MAYBE, they are trying to develop some of their young players.I see.
Ottawa's young players are so great, there's no need to bring in anyone.
T-1000, part 2.
Crazy idea. I know!

Any team repping Tyler Bozak as their #1 centre doesn't get to comment on other teams strength down the middle.

We added one great player (Ryan) and one good player (Macarthur).Adding one or two great players, on top of what you have, doesn't stop you from developing young players.

We let two 40 year olds go.
We tried to get Clarkson (thank god you guys overpaid to win out).
The team is doing what it needs to do to remain competitive, and when the time comes they will make the necessary moves for a hard push at the cup.

By the way - the irony of your position is hilarious.
The Leafs have foolishly dolled out contracts for years and now we're seeing that they are having a hard time signing their top young player and a quality defenseman as a result.
Spending to the cap, year after year, isn't a good strategy.
Pretty much this.
If you're not going this year, Ottawa really needs to go for it next year. Because after that, Anderson, Spezza, and Ryan are all UFA. As is the beast in Marc Methot. Maybe they re-sign, but they'll certainly cost more than they do now. Ottawa probably needs to decide to either stock up for a cup run in the next year or 2, or perhaps do some re-tooling and build again for a couple years down the road, when a few more prospects are ready.
Ottawa's in that awkward stage where they could easily be just a couple pieces away from being a big threat, especially if they can get that .940 goaltending in the playoffs. But they also have enough holes, and guys who are still in that may or may not develop stage that it might be foolish to blow up their prospect depth.
I think taking this year to evaluate their guys, see if Ryan can step up into that true top line 40-goal winger, is probably the right thing to do. Michalek and Phillips are the only UFA after the season, and if they want to bring them back, they shouldn't be too expensive. If Ryan steps up, and the prospects look solid, Ottawa should go all out for next season. If not, then they need to decide if they can restock better by dealing Spezza and waiting for the next wave.
Pretty much not this.
Kadri was one of the top scoring C's last year.
A point that is lost on most Sens fans, including yourself.
I believe in not rushing a rebuild.Just spending to the cap max would go a long way.
The Sens with a good #2 dman and another top 6 winger (which could've been had by just spending to max) could be a big threat, especially if they're healthy and the goaltending holds up.
I believe in the Sens more than Johnny and Corks who still believe they're years away.
Is Kadri signed right now? No? How was he in the playoffs?
I believe in not rushing a rebuild.
After watching your Leafs constantly take shortcuts, I'm surprised you don't agree.
Yup. I still think one of the most interesting moves the Sens could make right now is to give Franson an offer sheet for 5 years at 5M per year. Would fit in as a solid 2nd pair D for them right now. Could even consider going up to 5.5 or 6M, to make sure that you guys don't match.
Other option is keep chatting with Buffalo, try to find the cheapest price to pry Vanek from them. Would certainly give them another big threat up front.
So what is your argument? That we didn't do enough at UFA?
What great players did we miss the boat on?
Clarkson?
