OT: Movies/TV Shows

Who could forget...

The funny thing with M.A.S.H. is that the north American version that we got over here, was relative trash compared to the same version of the show they broadcast in the UK.

...as in North America the networks insisted on adding a laugh track in post production, which completely cheapens the true brilliance of the show that was being made.

For me, thats the golden age of filmmaking.

Godfather I & II, Apocalypse Now, Mean Streets, Clockwork Orange? One Flew Over the Cuckoo Nest, The Conversation, Rocky, Alien, Deerhunter, Monty Python, Annie Hall, Dog Day Afternoon, The Sting, Chinatown, Opening Night & Killing of a Chinese Bookie from Cassavetes, Jaws, The French Connection, Star Wars.....the list goes on and on...

Artistically, the 70's f*cking ruled.
This is an excellent ****ing point.

I officially retract my foolish comment on the last page.

It was a really odd show to have a laugh track.

Watched some of Aziz Anzari's 'Master of None' on Netflix. First couple episodes are a little shaky, as some of the dialogue is a little clunky and the acting/delivery is often kind of stilted.......but it feels like it has some potential to evolve into a solid show, if they find their footing.

It's definitely heavily influenced by Louie & Girls.....but feels like a slightly watered down version of either, aimed at a broader audience. (Early on anyway)

Have been a fan of Aziz since his 'Human Giant' days on MTV tho, so I'll probably watch all of season 1 at least, to see if it can grow into something.

Worth checking out.

Yeah, I'm real intrigued to see how it evolves as I get into the later episodes.....it seems like most of my issues with it should be easily rectified. (Aziz was a great actor on Parks & Rec for instance, so I'll be surprised if his somewhat stilted performances in the first two episodes carries on for the entire season.)

I think part of the issue could have even just been the director/editors not selecting very good takes......will be interesting to see what it's like with the various other directors they have this season. I know Eric Wareheim directs a couple episodes and I suspect he'll be pretty good, and episode 3 was a story written by Harris Wittels who was one of my favourite comedy writers before he died, so looking forward to that one in particular. He had a great irreverent/absurdist sense of humour, so I suspect it'll be one of the better episodes.

If I had to wager, my guess is the show gets better and better as it goes......and it's already pretty solid as it stands.

Watched episode 1 last night. Very Louis-ish. Aziz is a bit more engaging as an actor so I think I'll enjoy it even more. Has potential.

Just finished Train wreck - cliched rom com that should have been 45 minutes shorter.

Which should also be the inscription on Apatow's tombstone.

Was the extra 45 minutes devoted mainly to giving screen time to Apatow's boring family?

Master of None is good - not great.

It kind of irks me that it flirts with being great.....but then kind of meanders into mediocrity at times. Really weird show in that sense.

Hoping it gets a second season, because if given the time to hammer out the kinks, I think the foundation is there for a legit great show.......even as it stands though, it's one of the smarter sitcoms out there atm, imo.
