The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

In terms of filling in the fourth line centre slot? Yeah, that would make sense.

In terms of Gauthier, he just doesn't have the puck skill to be on this team, though it doesn't matter much in terms of team performance given his role. I'd just like to have the fourth line filled with guys that bring something more and could, in a pinch, play a bit higher in the lineup.

Meant how he left with shoulder injury during the last game. He could be re-evaluated and end up being injured.

It’s like Keefe was his spinach and he went full on Popeye. I’ve never seen him look so big, strong, stable, willing to battle it out in the corners. Add all that to the immense skill and the incredible skating. Just amazing. His confidence is through the roof right now and he’s turning into the best version of himself.

Morons didnt make willy look bad ....
Willy makes himself look bad.
Last year was all on willy.
This years he is producing.
Simple

Eh, who didn't expect him to struggle last year? The issue I have is seeing him struggle after missing training camp/preseason/2 months of the season and using that sample going forward while ignoring all the previous data.

The holdout and his subsequent struggles last year exacerbated the Willy hate, no doubt. But let's not pretend the hate didn't predate last season for a good chunk of "average Leaf fans" and the media that cover the team.

For most of his Leaf career he's been a whipping boy, and the first trade chip dummies started reaching for when they wanted to pontificate about how badly we needed to trade some of our high-end skill up front for "toughness" or "help on defense".

Nylander Paces

15-16: ES 19gls/37pts, PP 4gls/11pts
16-17: ES 13gls/36pts, PP 9gls/26pts
17-18: ES 15gls/49pts, PP 5gls/12pts
18-19: ES 9gls/32pts, PP 2gls/9pts
19-20: ES 26gls/50pts, PP 8gls/20pts
w/Babs: ES 25gls/50pts, PP 4gls/11pts
w/Keefe: ES 27gls/50pts, PP 16gls/32pts

And remember, he has always - ALWAYS - had elite possession numbers at even strength, even during his bad oish% luck last year.

Amazing what giving top PP time to a player can do for his reputation.

Now those are some nice real stats I can get behind. Nice work. It’s all about playing time and special teams in probably all of these cases. I’m betting it looks the same for the rest of the big boys too, not just Willy who unfortunately gets all the abuse.

I have long suggested male Leaf fans are often upset at how good-looking he is and his perfect hair. And I am not joking. If he had missing teeth and was bald he'd be accepted a little better. His summer photos of wearing stylish clothes and eating fancy food in Europe don't help either. He's the exact opposite of what people who loved Tie Domi value.

Regarding Willy, fair is fair though. He looks way more confident and willing to battle for the puck now than ever before. It can’t be that Babcock used to tell him to be soft on the puck and not go all out in the corners. Some of this is on Willy stepping up his game regardless of who’s coaching him, even though Keefe may be giving him the encouragement and stability he never had from Babs.
