OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

On the menu tonight: homemade sausages, roasted potatoes and rice from my zojirushi rice cooker (game changing device) with mixed veggies.

No thanks. That thing has more buttons than a Japanese toilet. I kick my rice old school.

What use is a rice cooker. Just boil it.

I don’t use it that often, but the results are superior and consistent. Set it and forget it.

Frankly, most of my rice dishes involve risotto — made a killer mushroom one last night.

I seldom use rice as a side.

No no no no. I'm very very picky with my rice. Rice cookers are typically shit, I agree. But zojirushi rice cookers are on a different level. Consistently elite rice. The one thing that Japan does better than everywhere else is rice. I actually don't hate sushi and shit outside of japan. Sure the fish isn't as fresh but north american sushi is fine... They make it their own seperate thing by adding weird shit but that's fine since you won't compete with Japan freshness, so the simplicity won't be near as good. So it's fine... Other than the fucking rice. Very few places here get it right and it's a fucking travesty.

And every small spot in Japan has their Zojirushis working wonders. I can make a decent batch the good ol' fashioned way but it'll never be as good or consistent as it is in the cooker. It just doesn't remotely compare.

I'm going to be making onigiri in the next few days with some fresh tuna I've got. Zojirushi is made for that kind of shit. Game changing device.

They have orange lines at the Loblaws at the cash registers to get people to keep their distance from each other and I had to be *that person* and ask a lady to stand behind it.

You really have to walk people through this shit, they're too dumb to think for themselves.

I agree that rice is a critically underrated component of nigiri. Here it’s usually an afterthought but still, sushi is one of those things I’ll go out for, so don’t need elite rice at home.

Nylander level rice as a side dish is good enough for me.

Fair enough. I'm a rice snob that needs perfection or the entire dish is ruined. A nice side of white rice goes with any protein so I just pop it in and get perfect rice every time. It's a nice luxury that I never though I needed... Okay I technically still don't need it but it has been a game changer in the same way my pressure cooker, food processor and gyuto knife have been game changers in the kitchen. I've had rice cookers in the past and always ended up making rice the old fashioned way since it would turn out better. But this thing is different.

For the occasional sushi experiment and of course one of my favorite snacks, onigiri? This shit is mandatory.

Peak Connor McDavid rice every single time.

Had to run to the store to get some necessary items... why in the actual **** are 6 members of the same family all going to the grocery store right now?

probably because a lot of people here the messages that young people barely get sick
they miss the part about the importance of not spreading it

the govt needs to be much more directive imo

Yeah, who knew cashiers would be one of the groups manning the front lines in this mess. I hope they get their due. I wish there was a tip jar for them. Then again, cash has become verboten, so another way to show gratitude would be nice.

Buy their groceries, whatever’s left unfortunately.

My daughter went to the store because we heard they restocked. there were 4 packs of paper towels left. She left two behind. So proud of her.
