The ferry is on my travel bucket list. We tried to use it on the way home from Florida one time when I was a kid but hit traffic and missed it. It wasn’t worth waiting for the next ferry, so we just kept driving.

Cedar Island - Ocracoke ferry is nice and it's 2.25 hours. I walked onto that ferry for a camping trip with a backpack. People looked at us like we were from outer space. Back then it was $1 to walk on and it's still $1. We camped on Portsmouth island , the last people moved from there around 1972. We had to hire a local to boat us over to Portsmouth. And he had the unusual Ocracoke accent which is sort of British.

We took the ferry from Hatteras to Okracoke as Hurricane Jose was twisting away off the shore of Hatteras Island back in 2017. The trip over to Okracoke was rough seas even though we were on the sound side, but the trip back late in the day was smooth as glass.
After the kid graduates from high school, I want to live either on Okracoke or up in Boone, but I'm sure both are unaffordable, so here it is that I shall die.

Cape May-Lewes Ferry has always been our go to for getting to NJ from here. We used to live in Cape May county and have family there still, so the ferry dumps you off close to where we usually are going to. Plus that adds the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to the drive as well. Beats I95 and the Delaware Memorial Bridge every time for me. Less stressful more relaxing drive (its not quicker overall, but its nicer for sure).
Avery County ... adjacent to Watauga County where Boone proper is located ... has plenty of affordable housing. And the lowest Covid infection rate in the State. They have decent health care too. Now go ahead and ask where I'd pack up and move to tomorrow if it wasn't such a pain in the butt to ... you know ... move. And I've already got access to a perfectly live-able house in Avery County, so all I'd have to do is cut a deal with my family, who wouldn't care enough to make it difficult. Yeah. Moving sucks.

I might move near the beach. There is cheap land 20 minutes from the beach.
Anyone know what to do when the land does not allow septic? I know there are other solutions such as a mound. Wondering how well they work.

Mound systems are ... not great. Typically rural homes in the coastal plain use storage tanks that are pumped by a service.

NC Phase 2 lasting another 3 weeks. Heads exploding. 
A short news article in Chemistry & Engineering News indicates that Moderna (mRNA vaccine) and AstraZeneca (adenovirus vector) are starting Phase III trials in the next few weeks. AZ suggested that they could be ready to distribute commercial quantities of vaccine by October if results are good. A couple of Chinese pharmas (Sinovac and Sinopharm) are planning Phase III studies outside China using a traditional deactivated virus-based vaccine.

Starting phase 3 is good news but that is also the phase that might not work out since it's with a bigger group of people. Most drugs/vaccines never make it to phase 3 and even less get approved after phase 3. Phase 1 and 2 are mostly to check safety not whether a drug/vaccine works.
There is also pre clinical which means animal testing and some drugs don't pass that to get to phase 1.

Is anything mandatory if it's not really enforced...this sort of thing seems to get some folks angrier and more combative and more reason to not where a mask than to wear one. I was at Costco today and despite the fact the store requires everyone to wear a mask, I must have watched at least 6-8 folks either wear it down around their necks or not even bother to cover their nose or just lift it up more than wear it down.

I give Cooper credit because he is probably is losing votes in Nov. after this. I guess he puts public health over his career.
I’ve seen the same and saw employees walk right past them without batting an eye.
So I’m going to the beach next weekend. I guess I’ll be creating some odd tan lines.

When someone goes in the express line at a grocery store with 20 items they don't do anything about that either. they don't want to get anyone mad. These days someone nutty could pull a gun or knife.

My son who works at Target, and when he's not working at Guest Services, sometimes lately has been the "person-counter" to monitor the reduced capacity requirement, figures that counter role will be also asked to check for masks, and he's *really* looking forward to enforcing the mask requirement.
