I’d say his window is the next 3-4 years. After this it gets complicated.
he got busy. The team is significantly better and all this was done without giving up prospect or high picks.
The window is 2 years because Suzuki and Romanov's contracts are up. If Suzuki's going to be as good as I think he is, he won't be getting some bridge deal for pennies on the dollar. Kotkaniemi needs a new contract next summer, but I could see him & Romanov getting a bridge deal. He doesn't have much of a leg to stand on.
Danault & Tatar are both going to be gone, it's just a matter of whether they'll be traded for picks or they walk as UFAs. They're not the end-all, be-all, but Danault's a superb #3 / borderline #2 center and Tatar's a 20-25 goal scorer. We don't have replacements for them if they move on. Caufield & Poehling might be able to replace them, but until they do, we have no way of knowing. They wouldn't be the first prospects to flame out.
Also of note: Price will be 35, Weber 37, Petry 34 by then. Is there a chance they'll all be as good as they are now? Sure, but it's unlikely.
Last thing: The team is definitely better, but I'm not sure it's significantly better. Defensively, a tiny bit. Offensively, it should be a lot better, but offense wasn't as much of an issue as the left D and goaltending.
Anywho, we shall see.
