Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

The NBA has no problem calling a foul with 0.5 seconds left. The NFL calls pass interference and holding during the 2-minute drill.

"That is a tough call to put a team down 2 men." - NO! it is a penalty no matter the situation! No its not. Call the rules by the book and stop influencing games

This is why I've repeated for years and years, I have always liked international referees more than the NHL ones. Without exception.

What the NHL did is fucking reprehensible. They can save this "integrity of the game" shit for some other sucker, I'm not interested in hearing it.

I doubt that there's a single person on this forum that doesn't believe Tim Peel did exactly what every single NHL referee does.

Not only that, but when I trained to become a ref several years ago this is what they TAUGHT us to do. It's an issue that runs far deeper than just the NHL. It's how they're trained. They are doing what they are told to do.

I’m all for Tim Peel never reffing an NHL game again. But he was apparently a few weeks away from retiring anyway, so this is a penalty designed to look much stiffer than it is.

And it’s pretty meaningless unless the NHL comes out openly and transparently against “game management”.

fucks with Bettman's parity program though

I, too, back in the day, was an HCOP Level 2 referee, and vaguely recall being instructed that yes, we must 'manage' the game.

There is logic behind it. Some of those games get out of hand if the amount of penalties you give heavily favors one team. At that age you're just doing this shit as a part time gig and want to make it out of each game alive. So you do what creates the least amount of conflict.
