This is why I've repeated for years and years, I have always liked international referees more than the NHL ones. Without exception. The NBA has no problem calling a foul with 0.5 seconds left. The NFL calls pass interference and holding during the 2-minute drill.
"That is a tough call to put a team down 2 men." - NO! it is a penalty no matter the situation! No its not. Call the rules by the book and stop influencing games
Not only that, but when I trained to become a ref several years ago this is what they TAUGHT us to do. It's an issue that runs far deeper than just the NHL. It's how they're trained. They are doing what they are told to do.What the NHL did is fucking reprehensible. They can save this "integrity of the game" shit for some other sucker, I'm not interested in hearing it.
I doubt that there's a single person on this forum that doesn't believe Tim Peel did exactly what every single NHL referee does.
As a grown adult, I simply cannot imagine getting upset over a bunch of men dressed in zebra costumes. Truly embarrassing for everyone melting down over this trivial occurrence.
Bandaid.
Not gonna make anyone happy.

fucks with Bettman's parity program thoughThe NBA has no problem calling a foul with 0.5 seconds left. The NFL calls pass interference and holding during the 2-minute drill.

I, too, back in the day, was an HCOP Level 2 referee, and vaguely recall being instructed that yes, we must 'manage' the game. Not only that, but when I trained to become a ref several years ago this is what they TAUGHT us to do. There is logic behind it. Some of those games get out of hand if the amount of penalties you give heavily favors one team. At that age you're just doing this shit as a part time gig and want to make it out of each game alive. So you do what creates the least amount of conflict.I, too, back in the day, was an HCOP Level 2 referee, and vaguely recall being instructed that yes, we must 'manage' the game.
It’s actually pretty gross to do that to Peel. The guy is retiring and you throw him under the bus for accidentally letting everyone know how the NHL is directing games to be called. How can you treat employees like that.
Weasel is apt.
