Leafs trade for Foligno

I think I'm just not going to believe this until the deadline has passed without us getting a goaltender.

I don't really get why we're making calls on Raanta, Ullmark, Kuemper etc as per Friedman if we know 100% that Andersen's returning.

Yeah, take it with a grain of salt.

I don't think Mirtle's got any insight on this that we don't have. He's just been a strong proponent of the idea that Fred's still very much in their plans this year, so he's doubling down on that and hoping he won't end up being wrong.

Still such an odd situation ... at least we'll know one way or another by tomorrow.

If he's legit injured and not coming back this year, why the cloak and dagger?

If he is likely to return, it's just going to be a huge distraction over a goalie who can't stop the puck. And only 2 options I can think of: (a) the Leafs front office feel like most of us, and will trade him tomorrow, or (b) the Leafs front office have looked at his performance over the last 2 years, both via the eye test and statistical analysis, and think he'll be fine.

Also, if he is returning, trading for another goalie just adds to the distraction, not to mention the cap hit.

Soco seems to have the scoop on this Fred situation and without saying anything he said enough to believe he is not coming back

C) they sent Freddie to the ultra secret Tim Thomas Goaltender Bootcamp/Retreat

So are y'all on the fire dubas train? I think he's done too.

At this point, just win.

But if, en route to another early playoff exit, Fred or Hutch end up getting playoff minutes for us this year and Foligno performs like an unremarkable 3rd line plug, I won't be feeling warm and fuzzy about the nerd to say the least.

There's still time left before the deadline though, so I hope you're wrong about him being done.

CJ says Foligno is likely headed back to Columbus this summer through free agency. Nicer move for them if that happens.

Not addressing goaltending by the deadline tomorrow may be enough for me

Love Jack but at this point its hard to see him lasting a 7 game series let alone a playoff run

I'm legitimately concerned with the fact that everyone in our media who is so regularly wrong about more or less everything absolutely love this move.

I'm worried that this overlaps with my "18 month lag" theory on the Toronto hockey media. That they eventually come around to the obvious truths in front of them, but it takes 18 months. They're just now coming around to the fact that Freddy is "struggling"....18 months after it was obvious. Welp, I'm concerned that 18 months ago Nick Foligno is exactly what we needed. Today, this Nick Foligno isn't.

If he doesn't add a goalie and we end up with Freddy or Hutch in net because Jack just can't play that much and hurts himself, yeah, that's end of the rope shit for me. Some brilliant, brilliant people have fatal flaws. Assessing goaltending just might be the Nerd's.

What is it you've heard so far that makes you think that?
Nothing, just a hunch and maybe trusting mirtle more than I should. And also because the trade they made today conveniently allows them to bring him back. Not sure they needed to include an extra 4th rounder for the double retention otherwise.

Would love for them to do a big dick blockbuster and prove my hunch wrong but I think that's against the odds.
