The nerds ruined the game with logic. No more wasting outs on stolen bases, and hit and runs, bunting etc

Instead, it's walks, homers and strikeouts. When the ball is put in play, the fielder is often within range because of smart defensive shifts.

I wonder how much of an impact it'd make if they just banned the shift.

Would fix some but not all. Baseball is definitely more fun with variety instead of 3 outcomes all the time

Agreed. And the change will be almost imperceptible . Give the ump an earpiece or something that beeps if it’s a strike and they can make their strike and punch out calls as elaborate as they want. They’ll still need to call fair or foul, safe or out and overturn any obvious errors by the strike calling robot. Such an obvious, necessary innovation.

Players are different in stature and stance , how would technology understand the strike zone

A strike to Kirk should be different than a 6`7" Judge
