the only real sense it would make is that it would instruct the hockey world on just how much better our blueline is than Oil Changes.

Ethan Bear played on their top pairing with Nurse for long stretches last year and wouldn't make our top 6.

If we used him that way, he'd never have the leverage to demand a deal like this and would instead be getting a Goodrow-ish $3.6m or $4M. I don't want an expensive Hyman and I don't want an 8 year obligation to a less expensive Hyman.
