OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Easy to make decisions behind a keyboard. You want decisive government? Move to China where the commies rule. They claim to have cases under control because if you step out of line there you disappear.

Meanwhile here and the states you have people claiming their freedoms are being taken always

Which is it? Half measures or full measures. Who is making that decision?

Unsure of what he's arguing at this point. We should be happy with the job our premier is doing because... He's not a lib?

It’s brutal because for 1 smart person there is likely 50 morons. How are you going to remain in power by listening to the 1 smart person while upsetting the 50 morons?

I’m not happy with any of our politicians and give no fucks about what they say or do because none of it makes any difference. They all fall victim to trying to make everyone happy. Someone out there is always getting fucked.

At what point do we expect our politicians to take one for the team and not worry about their electability in 2-3-4 years?

I mean, what does that say about us as a society if that's even an excuse: I know he killed a bunch of people with his inaction, but we can't expect him to risk his job...

The move was a coordinated global lockdown back in Jan/Feb 2020 if there was any hope of elimination. Too late now of course.

And yes nerds did advocate for that at the time
First one was the ding man. All downhill for him from there, though.

And things really are in a no-win scenario. Like, nobody wants more lockdowns, or to "cancel Christmas" or whatever. Everyone is tired of it all. Part of the issue this time around is Canada never seemed to get down to be able to "enjoy" time after the last wave. Like June and July were fairly low on case numbers, and things felt a little more normal then. But then you have the August/September spike, but things never got down to the lows after that, since it led straight into this latest surge. So basically the whole fall has been a mess since things never got down to a normal, stable level.

And then compounding it with the holidays, where the case numbers aren't so bad that people wanted to get back to things after "skipping" Christmas last year, but then again, since things are trending up, you don't know what you should or shouldn't want to do.
Democrats want to cancel Christmas.

The simplest explanation is this:

Each step along the way the data has been in and clear for weeks before Dougie made the decision to bring in any restrictions. When you're dealing with exponential/epidemic growth patterns every day of inaction makes the wave ultimately longer and higher, which can lead to 100's-1000's of additional cases that simply would not have occurred if sensible social restrictions (which absolutely work, there's simply no counter argument against them) had been put in place at the point the data was clear. We're not talking about locking everything the fuck down every time someone coughs, but when virus reproduction numbers increase, what comes next is nearly as clear and obvious a law of nature as any other (sit on a tack and bleed from the ass, fall out of a tree and hit the ground, whatev). When reproduction numbers go above 1.0, it's time to pull back the reigns a bit. Restrict indoor gatherings (there's no reason for the ACC to have been full at any time since ~Dec 1), cut max capacity of indoor retail/shopping, set up tax reimbursement programs for any business in the province to install approved air moving/hepa systems, etc, etc. We still to this day have places of work (schools, LCBO, etc) that won't allow their employees to wear N95 masks and force them to wear provided surgical masks due to provincial mandates that fly in the face of the established science on covid.

There's a pile of things they could have been doing (why do I feel like I write a similar post 2 weeks into every fucking wave?) and choose not to because I dunno, it costs money, would require him to actually care, etc.

So yeah, Dougie does some of the right things, but too late for them to have the positive effect that they could of. A good analogy is the brake pedal in your car. When you see someone running a red light, you don't wait to see if everything is going to sort itself out before hitting the brakes, you get on the brakes early because the earlier you do it, the better your chance of limiting damage is. Even if the accident is unavoidable, the more speed you scrub before impact will lessen the severity. The exact same principle applies here. The quicker we're able to stall reproductive growth in any way, the smaller the overall impact it will have on society.

DoFo is a moron. But I can't think of one premier (or governor) who didn't make a few unforced errors along the way when it comes to the pandemic. Governments are disappointing during the best of times, never mind this shit.

I agree with antivaxxers on one thing. While the risk of myocarditis for these mRNA vaccines is tiny for any single shot... It's not sustainable to use this mRNA platform if we're expected to get annual boosters the rest of our lives. They have yet to find a repeat case of myocarditis so it's independent. The more shots you take the more likely it eventually hits you. Definitely makes me cautious but right now nothing else compares except novavax (who use a traditional platform and have far better safety data) but they can't get their shit together and produce at scale. One day.

I've always wanted to join a cool anti-vaxer group. This sounds perfect; not anti vax, just anti mRNA as a standard vax.

It's hard to be too anti mRNA tho since the speed at which they were able to develop and scale saved so many lives! But shit it's not sustainable. I'll start the Facebook group and make you co-admin.

I'll make t-shirts! If they fly off the shelves, it'll be our signal to short MRNA!

That's fair, though outside of Alberta I can't think of a province (maybe Sask...can't be assed to follow what they're doing) that has scored the same own goals in the same manner, over and over again.

I'll admit that Ford has been a lot better than I expected him to be. Some politicians have fully fucked things up. Argued against public health imperatives due to a very thin grasp of concepts like freedom and personal choice. Ford could have been a lot worse. Doesn't exactly make him immune from criticism, obviously.

Ford could have definitely been worse. But he's always like 2 weeks behind from being excellent. If they announced these booster plans and rapid testing 2 weeks ago we'd be in much better position. And it's been that way through everything. But as has been said, he's not alone.
