OT: World Politics

It behooves us to remember that Russia doesn't have the money to field an army of this size in any real professional way. Corners have been cut at every turn. Procurement, maintenance, training, etc.

Ukraine is quite vulnerable in the south, though I remember reading somewhere they have considerable forces in Odessa.

As the underdog, it might be that they picked their battles wisely.

Yeah, that’d be my concern re: Kiev.

Maybe the lengthy convoy coming from the North out of Belarus doesn’t make any more forward progress, but the forces coming up from the South in Crimea seem to be advancing steadily.

I can’t believe I’m asking this because I admit it’s overly hopeful, but is there any chance even Trump supporters will recognize the stench of Trump repeatedly praising Putin in light of what we’re seeing Putin do now? Is that a bridge too far or is that too much credit to the MAGA crowd?

In every cult there will be people who stick around for the final purple kool-aid party, but what I do think is happening (and goes hand in hand with the way they have been building the Jan 6th case against him), is that he is getting politically distanced enough that we can see a path to him not being able to run for president.

...the fact that it is even possible is so fucked up it's hard to say out loud...but I am starting to feel a vibe in the gop...let the nutters nut as long as it's DeSantis or something similar that actually runs.

They might hand it to trump right after, but I am now willing to bet that he doesn't run.

small fucking favours but I think the gop finds another path to their Glorious End Game

I have less than zero hope. They're too far gone.

Overlooked point, Russia & Ukraine producd 30% of world grain production. Some slack will be picked up by other bread basket regions, but still.
