OT: American Politics

They all get one vote

The uneducated rednecks will vote against their better interests to stick it to the educated or anyone that mocks them for their idiocy. The GOP coddles them like babies while Dems shake fists.

You need to look at them like animals or toddlers, it's all about tone and level of derision or praise. They eat up blaming others for their lot in life and that is typical of the uneducated unwilling or unable to properly evaluate their lives.

It's such a frustrating cycle to watch that you just can't help but say WTF?!? The problem is that's precisely when you lose them. They live in their bubble and fear stepping outside of it.

I’m not really seeing how this video in particular is indicative of a Dem plan to make trans-inclusive pronouns a huge focal point in 2024 at all though.

I think she used descriptive language based on who was present at a round table and Breitbart seized on something that otherwise would’ve gone completely unnoticed.

I agree with most of what Mindz is saying on this issue, it's not that they're "right", because they aren't ... it's that this issue triggers a shitload of people that we need to prevent from getting on the Trump train (or even the DeathSantis train) before the next elections. Just read the comments on Twitter, a lot of this stuff is stupid, toxic gibberish. But it certainly doesn't help the cause to dismiss them as idiots or to try to shove the pronoun choices of 0.1% of the population down their throats.

Look if his point is that Being nice to disabled people causes some people to go into conniptions he's right.
If his point is what she did was silly well it was a LGBTQ conference with some visually disabled people.
and F him

Seriously being nice to some of these people is a bridge too far..

Yeah the US is messed when it comes to the transgendered. Big difference from state to state so they have to be careful where they live.

I'm amazed at how Asia just accepts it and moves on. It's not really discussed much. It just is.

Not so much here
I've known (That I am aware of) 2 TG people both MtF (Personally)
One I knew Pre determination And when chatting with them I do fight for the pronoun :) all my memories of her were as a him..

The other I met pre op but always presented female so she is a she..
the second I have an easier time with since it wasn't something that changed..

The Republicans are masters at taking minor issues and blowing them out of all proportion into major wedge "culture war" issues. It's a huge problem, and I'm not sure there's really a way to fix it. Other than better education and good luck with that.

And it's getting worse thanks to social media and a low attention span "soundbite culture".

Yeah, this is 100% what happened here.

I would argue that where we are now is a result of years of misinformation, distortion, and outright bullshit.

not disputing that this is where we are. just sucks that it got to this point. this has been decades in the making, and is turning out close to how the christofascists want it to :(

I'm at a point where I'm pretty content to try and use someone's preferred pronouns. Not really any skin off my back in doing so...

I would add to this that the noodle soft Dems are a huge part of this problem too in allowing the fascists to set the narrative and commandeer terms for their desired purposes.

Oh I agree.. Just that for me it's harder with someone I knew before the change.. Like If I met Elliot Page I wouldn't have much issue.
And I'm awaiting (TIC) the Blackhawks to change their namesake to Black Hawks.. Cause then they'd Identify as an Attack Copter 🔥🔥

yeah the biggest challenge for me is just overcoming/being aware of my instincts and being deliberate in the pronouns I use.

takes some adjusting, which is apparently too much to ask about 50% of folks.

my mindset is more or less... "life has, overall, been pretty easy for me. it helps looking white and being a man. so if there are small things I can do that help folks who did not have it as easy as me feel accepted and included, why wouldn't I?"

I've only met one transgendered person (that I know - MtF). She was early in her transition and older, probably in her 40s and a truck driver, so you can imagine the shit she must have put up with. I only encountered her a couple times, but I made an effort to use the proper pronouns, which isn't easy when the person isn't female passing yet. You have to be a real ass to purposely not use the right pronouns for someone trying to feel comfortable in their own skin. Takes nothing to do the right thing. I'm a laid back dude, but it makes my blood boil when vulnerable people like that are mistreated.
