The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

Fear in the air this morning. I'm gonna buy the dip pretty aggressively here. One thing that has been nagging at me is why did Kyle sign an older, worse kerf for 4 years?

Dubas just couldn’t resist. He has a “type” when it comes to his “middle-6”/depth forwards and Yarncock fits the bill perfectly: soft, smallish, milquetoast player of marginal offensive talent with no play-driving ability whatsoever.

See also: Kerface, Mein Kampf, Geno Malgin & Aubby-Kubley.

Engvall fits that mould perfectly too in every way except his height, so Kyle graciously overlooks the fact that he’s six-foot-five and lets him stay on the team.

Personally I was hoping Robertson would look a bit better because the 3rd line could use a guy like him.. A real scoring threat down there would be nice. But at the moment it's just crowded with middlingly talented soft, small perimeter guys. But there is plenty of time for Rob to emerge.

I mean is it a surprise that Jarny and Kerf have a combined 8 goals in in 112 career playoff games? That is not a very small sample... Kyle adding another soft playoff dud feels weird to me. I thought he was better than that.

The core and "best" of their bottom 6 forwards score goals at a 6 goal pace in the playoffs over a 112 game sample. That's scary bad and points to them being flawed players.

And these guys effectively replaced Hyman and Mikky who are both fast and fly around the ice every game no matter what.

it’s the lack of consistent intensity that is frustrating with this team. There will obviously be games where they aren’t feeling it, and stretches where the scorers are cold but if they aren’t scoring the drop off in shift to shift and game to game intensity is dramatic.

They aren’t just losing right now because of bad shooting luck. They are playing terrible.

I don’t know how you get the best out of this roster but whatever they are doing isn’t it.

they’ll get out of this and have a great season, but I was really hoping they would come out of the gates with the same determination the Avs had all year last year. But so far it’s all talk and no action. It’s a big let down.

They had a super obvious move to make in the off-season of dumping Muzz and using that money to address the beyond obvious forward depth power outage problem. They blew it. Not only that, they let Mikky test the market and get a huge deal from another team.

We got worse. Period. Doesn’t mean we’re not gonna break out of this and go 20-2 now and be good, but they’re certainly in no better shape to advance in the playoffs.

For the record, Kerf has been one of the few that has brought the effort so far.

And it was Bunting that replaced Hyman.

The Athletic has them ranked 12th in the Power Rankings. Dom says he’s exhausted rooting for this team. Good time to buy, especially with Zeke also looking worn out trying to find positives.

By the way, they made the same dumb mistake two years in a row.

Last year, they lost McCann in order to protect Holl. Why? No trust in Lilly to step in and replace him.

This year, even stupider, they kept a broken Muzz instead of trading him off and using his money on a forward. Why? No trust in Sandin to step in.

They go draft these blue chip dmen, develop them properly, see them dominate the AHL, but then are scared to death of ever playing them. Ceci and Barrie came ahead of them two playoffs ago no matter how bad they played. Babushkie was the answer last playoffs even though he was unplayable.

This is the definition of shooting yourself in the foot. And I bet Keefe is the one pushing for this stupidity, not Dubas.

Last year they stupidly set a franchise record any this year they're stupidly off to a better start than last year.

Yes, but also, Leaf franchise records aren't really a big deal because of the whole being mostly shit since the 82 game schedule became a thing, thing.

I'm not too concerned. I was much more last year. They'll be fine. But I agree about Muzzin. I always said he should go. Dubas is too nice to tell him he needs to go. We can do better without Muzzin in the playoffs. This idea we need him is crap.

I fell into the trap last year and didn't aggressively buy the dip after their tire fire start. I'm not gonna make that mistake again. They're flawed, had a mediocre offseason, and I'm not expecting improvement... But they're still really fucking good.

It’s about as impressive as the time Andrew Raycroft set the franchise record for wins in a season.

Sounds good, but only with no context whatsoever.
