OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

I truly hope I’m wrong. But I can see Moreno being an All star for a long time!
That’s not a stretch. He was BA’s #1 overall prospect in July. Not all #1s make it, but that’s rarefied air. Still, it will be worth it if Varsho helps bring the Jays a championship.

Odd thing though is that the Jays main need right now is probably a RH OF with some versatility. One of the guys that would fill that hole better than anyone is Lourdes Gurriel.

Is our venue more hitting friendly for Varsho
yes.

2022 Statcast home run park factor for lefthanded hitters in Rogers Centre was 94 (100 is average).

The # for Chase Field in AZ last year was 65 (though it's not usually that low).

Last year he had 11 homers, 93 wRC+ at home, 16 homers, 119 wRC+ on the road.

Though they're making all kinds of modifications to RC right now, so it's hard to say how much it'll change.

Moreno is really good. Baseball prospects are also baseball prospects though.

Yeah, I don't mind trading top prospects, but I like when we get in prime Josh Donaldson's back.
If there was one available i'd like to know about it, and i suspect it costs Moreno + Tiedemann.

I dont think a mistake like the Donaldson trade since the Betts trade (woof)

I mean, we didn't give up one Moreno or Tiedemann for Donaldson himself, never mind two of them.

The general rule is that prospect capital is overvalued in these trades. Just looking at a few recently

- Lindor & Carrasco got Giminenz in return and he's great, but he peaked at the 92nd best prospect on Fangraphs list. The other 2 kids they received were well outside of the Mets top 10 at the time of the trade.

- The Aronado trade was grim AF for Colorado....not even worth breaking out the names.

- The Betts trade, lol

- Even a deal where real high end prospect capital went the one way, it was Trea Turner & Max fucking Scherzer for two top 20 prospects (#15 & 17 according to Fangraphs) and then 2 more outside the Dodger's top 10.

Moreno was a #1 and Tiedemann is probably going to go screaming into the top 10-15 by the end of this year.

If you want a list of elite players that have been traded over the last few years, it's easy enough to find. But they're often risky, with only a single year of control left.
