2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

After leaving him twisting in the wind for a week, the Canucks finally whack Bruce Boudreau and his staff. He was replaced by Rick Tocchet with Adam Oates and Sergei Gonchar joining as assistants. I’ve seen reports on Twitter that Tocchet had to provide 4 weeks notice to TNT if he was taking a coaching job, and if that’s true, the Canucks handling of this was even worse.

“Bruce, there it is.”

Mercy killing. Poor Bruce. Like any of that was his fault.

Pierre LeBrun tweeted that he’s hearing Tocchet’s contract is 3 years at $2.75 million per. The Canucks are still paying the balances of Boudreau’s $2 million and Travis Green’s $2.75 million this year. Both of those contracts end this season.

Remind me again what Rich Tocchet has accomplished as an NHL head coach?
Tocchet has gotten a great deal of run out of managing to keep Arizona vaguely competitive during that period when they didn't have a proper owner and the club was operated by the league. Of course, those Coyotes teams were an absolute treasure trove of talent compared to the current roster, but never mind the details. Narratives always trump details. He also has/had a gambling problem but I guess it's rude to bring that up.

So A little more then Jack and ..._____ ...Coke..

Sens announce that Josh Norris will have shoulder surgery and will miss the rest of the season. He was limited to 2 goals, 1 assist in 8 games this season after breaking out with 35 goals last season.

JR and "Alvinnnnnnn" both had the old Pittsburgh connection working when Tocchet was an assistant with them so if there was a third required box to check it would be "good old boys club member that knows all our secrets and they are safe".

Now we know the real reason why Rutherford took out Boudreau. It was payback…he gave up Boudreau’s first NHL goal.

If you have never taken a look at Bruce Boudreau's pro hockey playing stats they are worth a look. He never really got much play with the Leafs, but he was one of the best minor league forwards around for a very very long time.

Schneikes! In a bad season, he’d average a point per game. His last 3 seasons in the IHL, starting in his age 34 season, he had 115 goals.

Great memories of my youth!!! I was only 9 when that game was played but I still remember it like yesterday...when you lived and died with any hockey that was on TV back then you remember these types of things! Harold Ballard and King Clancy in the bunker, Paul Morris on the PA call of the goal and probably Bill Hewitt on the call of the game! I use to use aluminum foil on the old rabbit ears to try and get some of the games to tune in on the boob tube during the crappy weather days!
