Would be real tough to correct for it this year though. It's likely the difference between them being better this year vs being worse. Just saying the stakes are highest with that signing. They need him to be good

It just seems different. They'll score more I think. If they can keep their defensive structure it's hard to imagine they got worse.

It's not quite "buyout anyone" in this window should the team have either a settled arbitration case or an arbitration award. The player you are buying out must have a cap hit of at least $4 million.

So yes, if Samsonov files, the Leafs will have a 48 hour buyout window (3 days after a settlement or the hearing award), and they will be able to buyout Matt Murray then.

Coming from the king of hyperbole, this hurts. I believe I expressed myself quite fine. They had space for one d that makes that kind of money so it's pretty important to get it right. And maybe they did!

It's a CBA thing. I can dig it out but capfriendly.com has that number handy in the buyout FAQ. I'm not sure what the reasoning was for having a minimum cap hit for the arbitration buyout period.

That minimum has moved as the cap has moved. In the original CBA it was $2.75 million. For 2023 per capfriendly.com it now $4 million.

I think he’ll put up good numbers and then take off as a UFA on another one or two year deal.
 
ROR is the only obvious downgrade as the 3c, but even that is more perception vs reality.

there is still some work to do. Need a C and D. But there is no rush to get them.
