2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Montreal and the crapitals is actually been a good series to watch. Caps are up 2-0 but they aren’t exactly running away with it. Some good young players on the Habs.

The general standings suckage in those cities took care of that one for ya Bucci -- no RSN to get in the way when the team is golfing.... and ya I'd be a little more sympathetic if you guys were better at your job. I like the Booch doing college games, I don't know if it's a style thing or he knows that game better, or what, but it's night and day to me when he does NCAA vs. NHL... and he really belongs in the studio, NHL 2Night style.

And this remote studio setup stinks to high heaven. Broadcast teams belong in the arena, barring weather or other last-minute emergency it's fine to have the capability to go remote rather than dark.
TNT says that there are logistical challenges in Edmonton, Winnipeg and Ottawa, especially with the volume of other games they’re broadcasting across the NHL, NBA and MLB. They partnered with Sportsnet to create a “world feed” similar to what the NHL and NBA did during COVID. Sportsnet assigns 10-12 technicians to create the feed and Forslund, Botterill, etc broadcast from Atlanta. They did commit to broadcasting elimination games, unless Edmonton or Ottawa are eliminated in game 4.

Landeskog is in for the Avs. The last time he played, Gary Bettman handed him the Cup. Evander Kane is in for Edmonton, which means that Jeff Skinner is a healthy scratch. Good thing he broke his streak on Monday, it might be his last.

Stars take game 3 on a Tyler Seguin OT goal (Invisible Man with a nice assist on the play). All this after killing off a Colorado 4 minute power play to start OT.

I read that as they're cheap.

Basically, they're cutting corners because they're not getting the ratings they need to cover the cost of doing it right. They can blame the volume of games all they want, but if there were enough ad dollars coming in then they'd figure it out.

LA carved up the Oilers 6-2 to take a 2-0 lead in the series, which reminds me ... the only team with a better home record than Carolina this season was the Kings. Unlike the Devils, the Oilers are fairly healthy so maybe keep an eye on this one. LA earning home ice in this perpetual playoff matchup was HUGE, given how good they are with last change.

The Oilers have no defense, no goaltending and they expect McJesus to do it all...they are toast and will be out in 5 or 6 max. As much as we all agree Carolina may need to shore up their goaltending this summer...it appears Edmonton may be in more dire straits to fix that position more than any other team...

Again, beware over-reach when it comes to teams as good at home as the Kings and teams as good as the Oilers are at offensive explosions. I'm expecting LA to get it done, but the Oilers are probably not as cooked as it looks right now.

Wednesday night playoff action ...

Toronto gets a quick winner in OT from Simon Benoit(!) to go up 3-0 on Ottawa. The Sens played much better but they just aren't in Toronto's weight class. I'm pretty sure that was Benoit's first goal as a pro.

Florida got a goal from Nate Schmidt before the first TV timeout, sat on it and added an empty netter. Easy peasy. They lead Tampa 2-0 heading back home and are putting on a clinic on how to flip the switch in the playoffs. Oh, and Hagel got a major but no game misconduct for a cheap headshot on Barkov. Still puzzled by that one.

In the West, both the Blues and the Wild climbed back into their series with home wins after trailing 2-0 in their series' ... tales as old as time. 2-0 leads earned on home ice are nice, but far from decisive.

According to snopes.com the Wild never trailed in the series 2-0. They actually lead 2-1 now.

That Hagel hit was dirty.
Considering Barkov never even played the puck and it was heading away from him ... yeah? Hard to defend that one. He went for the head on a hit that was going to be interference either way. That's BS any way you slice it. Tampa fans are rolling out the usual defenses but that was a frustrated player taking a head shot when he saw the chance. Period. I have no idea what justification the league has for that not being a game misconduct. If it was violent enough for a major, and resulted in injury, the offender usually gets the gate.
