Around the League 2019-2025 Edition

Based on my numbers, Marner's points were worth $11,462,967 for this season ($88mil salary cap), which is worth $12,095,946 in a $92.5 cap.
And Marner's camp will visit every interested team in order to bring a number back to the Leafs, it'll be up to the Leafs to decide.

Tavares numbers are right there too, in the $11mil range.

Marner I kind of get that we're pot committed to at this point as long as the contract isn't entirely obscene. 100 point wingers don't grow on trees and we're better off betting on Marner growing into a clutch performer than we are trying to replace him.

Tavares though, still the 4th best forward on our PP, still the 2nd best forward on his 5v5 line. Isn't heavy and physical enough to excel in a series like this that's being played in a phone booth, lacks the footspeed to excel in a series against a team that tries to win a track meet. He's been better this season and in these playoffs than the last few years, but even then he's slipped quite nicely into his usual ~55 point pace playoff production. You don't pay a guy for what he did for you, you pay him for what you think he's going to do going forward. His 19% shooting and 15% OISH (both career highs by a lot) are cautionary.

EV Production Pace:

24/25 (Playoffs)
Tavares: 28/59 (16/25)
Bennett: 19/43 (46/73)

23/24
Tavares: 21/46 (0/12)
Bennett: 18/35 (26/43)

22/23
Tavares: 18/42 (22/52)
Bennett: 16/40 (16/45)

Other than this past season, where Tavares was legitimately very good in the regular season, Tavares has the edge, but there isn't a huge gap between them in EV production. Bennett has been a better playoff producer though and has all of that intangible shit that sucks to play against in the playoffs. He's probably responsible for half of the pounding Tanev has taken, put our #1 out for the series and scored the backbreaker on us last night as well as the primary on the tying goal in game 3.
It's nice when people agree with me.

Marner has the gwg in 2 of the leafs 3 playoff wins vs Fla.

Awesome. Homeboy still has 4 goals in his last 26 playoff games. 12+ millie is a big swing for that, and you're not doing that if your hope is 4 more goals over his next 26 playoff games.

Oh don’t disagree, but the guy has at least come up big in a few spots where they needed it.

The guy is a game breaker that makes big plays but has never been one to drive possession or carry flow. Which is fine because his center is usually Auston fucking Matthews. I don't really expect him to take the bull by the horn like a Matthews or even Angry Nylander and carry his line or team, but he will be there to make the big play when you need him to. And he will bail you out when your team is sucking dick. That's the beauty of a guy like that.

And yeah he's been great other than last game. So hopefully that continues the rest of the series.
