2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

For the most part, Willy looks like regular season Willy in the playoffs, but I don’t think I have any memory of playoff Marner ever resembling regular season Marner.

If they’re letting one go, it has to be Marner. But I already feel myself inching closer and closer to bring all the fuckfaces back to fuck us some more.

All of the mediots doing the podcast tours today sure make it sound like Mitch is done here. CJ had a fairly long go of it today, talked about some of the incidents Mitch didn't like over the years about him and his family getting shit from people in public and such.

Nobody is saying out firmly yet, but they all make it sound like he's ready to go.

Which, you know...I'm going to be all broken up over.

Ovechkin was 32 when he won the Stanley Cup. I’m good with even 1 Cup during this era. If we have to wait like Caps fans, it’s not so bad.

Everyone said Marner was gone last offseason as well. Treliving has said he wants him here, I’m thinking there’s a better chance he stays than leaves.

If you think we’re not going to regret it way more than we did when we lost Hyman or Kadri, you’re kidding yourself. It’s gonna suck and Brock Boeser won’t make it be okay. The whole situation is steeped in lose-lose for me.

8 goals in his last 49 playoff games. 0 goals in games 5-6-or 7 since 2019. Back when he was a 21-22 yr old kid, whatever. But he's 28 now and wants to be paid like a top 5 player in the world. Nothing will hurt us more than keeping him and him simply doing what it is he's done over the life of this last contract. It's time for us to start including who these guys turn into in the playoffs in our assessments of them

We're not going to miss playoff Marner at all. He would have to completely change what he is, a guy who likes to hang onto the puck in open space on the perimeter and pass to players in the middle of the ice, to become successful in the playoffs.

we should be broken up over it. it's a disgraceful waste of assets and a masterclass in poor management.

Yes, but the waste was not trading him before his NMC kicked in a few years ago. Since then we've been pot committed, and he wouldn't waive when he was approached this year at the deadline.

Can't go back and change any of that. There are two options. Sign him to 13.5x8 (or more..by the sounds of it that's been the team's offer this year.) or don't.

A series is 7 games though, and we should have been up 3-0 in this one. Pissing away game 3 changed the nature of this series badly. The proverbial TSN turning point if you will.
Core 4 , 1G 1A games 4-7

I understand your point but this is fucken embarrassing and way worse than Woll’s performance .

Bingo , the regime should have started to purge after the Habs collapse. You will never get an easier matchup

You need to find 175 points to help you make the playoffs if both 16 and 91 walk

16 for all his warts is a get me to the playoffs player and there are very few in the league that can replace him

The optics are terrible either way but I'm not sure bringing him back is an option a this point. An organizational shift is needed and signing him to a long term deal only cements you are not willing to make the changes necessary to turn this team into a legit contender.

If this franchise decides that the way forward is to sign Mitch to the fat, massively overpriced long-term extension he wants so that we can get rid of Nylander instead, then this team would richly deserve to be a perennial loser and punchline it currently is until the end of time.

And it’s not even like I have a ton of love for Nylander at the moment. But the fact remains that out of our high-priced stars, Willy has been our best playoff performer by far, to the same degree that Mitch has been the worst of that bunch.
