How do you bring in a guy not as good as Auston for 11 million and then try to get Auston to sign for 11 million? Once Auston signed his deal, Mitch pointed at that pretty hilariously used Auston Matthews as his comparable.

If just one of them was a psychopath capable of being a serial killer or rape or some shit, things could have been much different. They're all a bunch of nice, laid back dudes. You complain about guys, but you always pin all the ultimate blame on one guy because they paid him $11m (just like the other guys) and gave him the C (before giving it to the other guy who then promptly went and led the team to its worst defeats to close out a series). Like there was no way for any of these other guys to become leaders and step up, and they would've, if they weren't foiled by the arrival of an awesome player who performed exactly as expected all the way through the final year of his long deal.
I mean, just look at your statement. The kids needed to have a different captain in order to become leaders themselves. Absurd obviously.

Not absurd at all. Not just Tavares fault, but I've complained enough about players long gone as well. Marleau, Thornton, etc, etc. We never brought actual winners in here to help develop our kids into winners and then wonder why they play like the losers we surrounded them with.
