2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Holy sh*t...this first period in Edmonton has been unreal!
We listened on the radio on our way out to Charlotte…Savannah Bananas today. The announcers kind of undersold it and they must have had some kind of crowd noise dampening system because they didn’t sound very loud, except during the Canadian anthem.

Bonkers Game 2. The first period was unhinged (including McJesus walking on water at one point), then Florida did that thing where they proceed to win every wall battle and every loose puck for the entire second period to grab the lead, then Edmonton claws their way back into it in the 3rd only to need a desperate extra man goal to take it to OT ... where they continue to have the best of the play only to barf one up to the Rat King on a breakaway. It was almost three games in one, just wildly entertaining. Neither coach is probably feeling great about duplicating any of that noise and neither team can impose its will for anything longer than a period. Good thing I really don't give a crap who wins because otherwise this thing would be giving me the angina.

Has there ever been a team as effective at extreme pressure on the other team's puck handler in all zones of the rink? It's just crazy. If you keep the puck on your stick for more than half a second, you're getting basically smothered and your pass will be a very difficult one to make.

I must ask, because I’ve always been curious, does that Bananas stuff live up to the hype? I’ve watched the documentary on the owner, we’ve missed out on local tickets at the DBAP…worth the admission and it’s quite entertaining?

First time for me so I’ll let you know. The game starts at 7.
We went to the DBAP game and had a really good time... their shtick is entertaining and worth it if you're a baseball fan, I just don't know if it's sustainable ( Seeing it multiple times, etc... I'm not sure I'd go again)

I mean, Florida IS really good at the heavy pressure but it ain't always as suffocating as it looks when they're on their game like they were in the 2nd period last night. All they accomplished in the 1st period was to wrench up the pace of the game to dangerous and unsustainable levels. They were giving the Oilers as many chances as they were creating for themselves. But the genius of this Florida team is that they can adjust it and dial it up or down as needed. Like peak Tampa before them, they've got more than one speed and they can kill you more than one way.

For Canes fans wondering what Brind'Amour meant when he called Florida the "standard." It's that. Carolina can do that same thing, and they do it very well, but they only have two speeds. They're either suffocating you or it's track meet time. Having the roster balance so finely tuned that you can adjust as well as they do is the benchmark he's looking for. While everybody's out there looking for the secret sauce, I think it boils down to being efficiently flexible.

We enjoyed the Bananas game went went to, but I feel like it's a Globetrotters kind of thing. I love the Trotters but have zero desire to spend money to see them now that my kids are grown. If I'm lucky enough to have grandkids, I'll be back.

It’s on ESPN2 tonight if you want to watch. We need AndyT to find a camera and say hi to all of us. Maybe paint your chest with the website logo.

Anyone ever catch Meadowlark Lemon and the Bucketeers back in the day?
I have a very long story about a business trip when I flew with the Globetrotters--in a middle seat between two of the players--between Pittsburgh and Toledo. The short version of the story ends with them giving me a courtside seat to their show that night in Toledo and me ending up being the victim of the water bucket skit!

Just watched the game on espn2. It was very entertaining. For about an hour. I would probably go once but probably not again.
