The first is an obvious Tre move.
The second, if Knies wants huge money just bridge him and build a deeper team.

The Rangers stacked up with Oilers when they won in 94lol we're not even creative enough to try anything other than 'sign as many ex-Panthers as you can'
seems about right for bubbles
so to be clear, do you agree with the 'let's just sign ex-Panthers' teambuilding approach? The Rangers stacked up with Oilers when they won in 94
sure, but their new deals are likely to return less overall value than their old deals. part of florida's success has been its cap efficiency - getting more $$$ value than what they pay. those efficiencies are likely lost on their new UFA dealsIn fairness Ekblad, Marchand and Bennett are probably he #2,3 and 4 UFAs this year.
Much different than OEL/Lorentz.
eh I don't think Ekblad is a #1. Forsling was their best d-man both cup runs. and pretty sure Montour got more icetime than Ekblad too, and was the top PP guy.Agreed. But they also all fill the three biggest holes the Leafs have had for 7 years, a #1 D, a center and a veteran leader that isn't a giant bitch.
Marchand's contract will be horrible though.
yah fix the systemic issue instead of just overpaying the panthers scraps...It would obviously have to be a fairly significant overpay to attract one of those guys. Of the 3 I think I prefer overpaying for ekblad. Though it's all quite risky.
Leafs should just hire that Panthers lead nerd that apparently runs the show and find value guys instead tbh. Like he's very easily poachable for the Leafs. Just pay him.
I think they did in the offseason. Tre mentioned the analytics guys/pro scouts targeted their guys and he went to work to try to sign them. And I do sort of see that in the guys that they acquired.Do they even bother to use the nerds they have now? The Berube system suggests they don't
You mean don't pay the most for analytics then proceed to not listen to them? The real lesson from Florida is listen to the nerd.
Metcalf is an early hockey analytics peer of Mehta.

I do not. I was just pointing out a historical exampleso to be clear, do you agree with the 'let's just sign ex-Panthers' teambuilding approach?
I don't think it's gonna move our needle much at all. we'll just burn through all our cap space on UFA deals we'll likely later regret.
