2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Here is the breakdown of Ekblad’s contract.

Yr 1 - 3: $1M Salary & $6.9M SB
Yr 4: $1M Salary & $5.14M SB
Yr 5 - 8: $1M Salary & $3.74M SB

Yr 1 - 6: Full NMC
Yr 7 & 8: 16 Team No Trade List

The way Ekblad plays he’s going to be useless in years 6-8 and maybe sooner. His body won’t keep up. Doesn’t mean you don’t do the deal or that he’s not worth Ir because he is……just a lot more risk, in my opinion, for a guy that plays the way he plays. His body will be mush in the next 5 years

I don’t think Zito gives a rat’s behind about what’s going to happen in 5 years. He’s got a team that can win a third straight Cup and he’s going for it. The only other teams that have done that are the Leafs, Habs, and Islanders. Thats it. The Bobby Orr Bruins never did it. The Gretzky Oilers never did it either. And nobody has done it in the salary cap era. If he has to eat those contracts in 3 years, that’s the cost.

Also, Happy Bobby Bonilla Day!

Florida is in this for the next 2 years and nothing else. Any pain beyond that will be the cost of keeping this team together while Bob still has his fastball. Ekblad's term is bad, and Marchant's is worse. Bennett is wildly over-paid the second you stop being an annual Final Four team. And none of that matters because they've managed to keep the band together for another run or two.

Bob is the key. Don’t forget, he had essentially been replaced by Alex Lyon at the end of the 2022-23 season and in the playoffs. He really didn’t find his mojo until the Toronto series. They out scored the Bruins in the first round, both Bob and Lyon were bad, with Bob at 3.95/.891. But against the Leafs, he was 1.89/.943 and then 1.12/.966 against the Canes.

Maybe the only way through Florida come playoff time the next couple years is to take out BOB at all costs...and I know that is such a Florida thing to do in many respects! ;)

I hate to admit it, but the Panthers focus on the next 2 years makes perfect sense. Strike while the iron is hot. I'll be deliriously happy if they crash and burn before then, but they know they've got a good thing going and they intend to ride it out.

I mean, there's no perfect way to age out of a Cup window. Tampa tried to feather it out softly but I'm not sure they got it right. Pittsburgh clung to the past with a dead man's grip, and I'm not sure they got it right either. I figure it's better to go out in a blaze of glory and then blow it up and start over.

Oilers trade Viktor Arvidsson to the Bruins for a 2027 5th rounder. He has 1 year left at $4 million, Oilers are not retaining salary.

Bouchard is a guy who tilts the ice, creates chances on virtually every shift and can legit score from distance. There's not really a metric for how much those guys are worth, because there aren't enough of them to fill a decent sample size.

I feel like he was exposed vs Florida. Like Dougie was against Washington and Pesce was vs Fl. Get rough with them and their game goes to pieces to some extent.

Dougie freaking wishes he was as good as Bouchard. You guys are letting a VERY small sample size define a VERY good player. This is a 25 year old defenseman who has already posted a point per game season and averaged more than a point per game in his playoff career. Yeah, he was gonna get some money.
