2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

They have an opportunity to be a better team without Marner, but this was the worst offseason to lose him for nothing because there were no good free agents.

And Tre totally fucked up trading two firsts and 2 of our top 3 prospects for a 4C and 5D, leaving us with no assets to acquire top of the lineup players to replace Marner.

They'll feel his loss. Hes amazing, and its looks like they will enter the season short handed ($9 mill in cap space) with no trade assets.

The Laughton trade was so horrendous. We badly needed those assets and trade prices were low this summer in compared to trade deadline.
Laughton isn't even needed at all.

You've spent the last few years saying that they'd be better without Marner. Why the change of heart?
Leafs previous regime waited too long deciding his future

Once his full no move kicked in he held the hammer

Your losing a top end player and will need other areas to come through

Losing Marner might maybe open their eyes that they need more skill throughout the lineup. We'll see.
LOVE the Maccelli deal.

* - 2023-24

If a bunch of guys rebound to 23-24 form (Matthews, Rielly, Maccelli, Joshua, Domi, Roy) then they are actually pretty solid, with much better depth than they've had. The new guys are all question marks, though IMO Maccelli and Roy have enough track record that they should bounce back.

Funnily enough everyone thinks their D is solid, but their two biggest negatives are likely on D (Mo/OEL). If Rielly is what he was last year then they badly need a 1D.

Marner was the biggest but by no means the only player who consistently fucked the dog once the playoffs started. And, so far, he hasn't actually been replaced by anyone with whom one could compare playoff performances. But making it to the postseason shouldn't be a problem. You still have enough players who can get you there.

Geeman has been posting for years about how Marner sucks and is not a top player you can win with. Pretty sure that was what the post was directed towards
It’s the same schtick troll hab fan usually abides to here. It’s in the manual.
Not talking about the legit “I can leave my bias aside” hab fans that post here..,you know who you are
