2025 Canes Training Camp Thread

A mixed bag with 8 NHL guys in the game group. KK getting a chance to play with Svech. Miller and Janky still in yellow, Slavin and Chatfield still out, Andersen and Kochetkov also not on the ice. Ryabkin at wing, he had been 4C in the Wolves group.

Hopefully all of our Dmen who are too banged up to actually play a preseason game won't struggle to ramp up when the puck drops for real in less than 3 weeks.

It's all just minor surgery recovery stuff, but so long as everybody is skating by the end of September it should be fine.

The end of September is only 8 days away. And Slavin and Chatfield might not play at all. That’s the concern, they both have new partners and Slavin might be moving to his off side.

I want to know why my brain just won't let me do a crossover step turning right. Left turn is easy-peasy; right turn is "you are going to fall on your ass".

I just don't get it, yet JS makes it look so natural. Like anyone should be able to do it.
I can sort of do a left turn too, or at least I could the last time I skated. But to the right? Forget it.

Backwards left was always my weakest crossover side. I can go that way, just not as strong as to the right. I haven't played competitively in years. I'd probably break something if I tried to go now.

Well, thanks Jatovi. At least you were better than your predecessor. That said, I never did feel like he really lost the minor league baseball energy.

I thought he was fun. Everyone deserves to be given a reason for being put in his situation. Not cool.

Oh, fair. I meant to say something along those lines and got distracted by another thought. EVERYBODY deserves the dignity of a conversation when their contract isn't picked up.

I've known Jatovi since his ComedyWorx days and think very highly of him. I'm sorry the Canes organization treated him this way.

According to Nick Kypreos, the Canes and Mammoth thought they had a trade in place for Connor Ingram over the summer. We‘ll see in a few hours if anyone claimed him, the Canes are pretty far down the list. I guess it depends on when the discussions happened, both teams solidified their goalie situation at the start of free agency. The Mammoth signed Vitek Vanecek on the first day of free agency, so it wouldn’t have been for Kochetkov. At the start of free agency, the Canes only had Quapp and Khazheyev under contract and they probably didn’t want to trade for a goalie they’d have to expose to waivers. Unless they planned on carrying 3 goalies. And the whole thing might have been mooted when they signed Primeau, although he was signed on the 2nd day of free agency.

The non-game group practice lines and pairings. Jankowski is in a regular jersey. Miller is still in yellow. Slavin, Chatfield and Kochetkov are missing. Kochetkov is a recent addition to the walking wounded, he hasn’t practiced in a few days.

Yeah, the Canes went out and got Primeau and Miftakhov in response to that deal for Ingram falling apart. Given that nobody can know for sure how Ingram will bounce back, that could well work out for the best. Carolina's history with goalies who need mental health support is ... not great, although it has been awhile
