2025 Canes Training Camp Thread

The non-game group. Millier still in yellow, Janky in a regular jersey. After taking a high stick on Friday, KK is missing, RBA doesn’t think it was serious. Slavin, Chatfield and Kochetkov still missing but the latter skated with the goalie coach before practice.

I always tried to get my birth year (72) Didn't always happen. But my son wore my birth year his Jr and Sr seasons. Being O line it's a natural number.

Jeff O’Neill wore #92 because it was the year he was the first overall pick in the OHL Draft.

I only ever wore two numbers ... 64 (birth year) for sports where that was appropriate and 44 (David Thompson, Hank Aaron) otherwise

I haven't seen any of the preseason games. How is Nikishin looking? I know it's still waaaaaay too early to tell with him, but any thoughts anyway?

By all accounts they say he is still finding his way in the Canes system but once he masters that the sky is the limit. Glimpses of the big booming hits and great shot but still adjusting to the North American game. A shame that three of the regular D guys have been banged up most of camp which has thrown things off I would imagine on the defense as a whole so far.

Positionally he's still a mess, but he's processing quicker with the puck. He just needs a good chunk of time to get settled and I think he'll be fine. And by that I mean a useful, reliable NHL defender that you won't have to hide. Personally, I'm gonna give him until Christmas before I have any expectations beyond watching him learn.

He hasn’t been THAT bad.

Skyler Brind’Amour and Ronan Seeley were placed on waivers so they could be sent to the Wolves. Badinka, Fensore and Heimosalmi were assigned to the Wolves.

He's an efficient skater. Long, strong strides. The kind that had neanderthal fans complaining about how slow and lazy Pitkanen was. He's got a good wrister. He's strong, and can lay people out with his hits. But he picks his spots, and doesn't do it often. He appears to be a smart player.
