Phase I Arena Renovations

I'm typing on a Lenovo Yoga laptop that goes along on my travels. Wondering if there's going to be a stuck keys anywhere in the Len Cen?

My family used to hit the Sanitary whenever we went down that way. It wasn't hitting on much last time my wife & I stopped in. We'd been wreck diving with Olympus and were close to starving by the late afternoon. Disappointing was the best review I could give.

For sandwiches, bar food, & cold beer I was always a fan of Sam & Omie's at Nags Head whenever we hit the Outer Banks. Haven't been fishing down that way in several years though. It's been so long since I fished the OBX, I about forget what the place looks like. I heard the big red drum are around now though. A buddy's son caught a 42" Red last week.

The Centennial Authority submitted a rezoning request for their entire 80 acre property around the arena to the City of Raleigh yesterday. With all the involved parties having their say, including public hearings, the approval process could take 6 to 9 months.

The details are in this article in today's Triangle Business Journal...

For those without access, all I can say is that the magnitude of what's planned over the next 15 years is a little overwhelming. According to the TBJ, the proposal "calls for a site with four subdistricts holding 4,000 residential units, up to 3 million square feet of non-residential space with building heights up to 40 stories, parking decks, open space, entertainment and dining areas as well as an enhanced tailgating experience." This simple rendering in the filing caught my attention...

Our tailgate spot is under a pink block.
Dundon can go fuck himself.

Definitely going to be a huge change in the gameday experience as the development progresses. In the end I still want to be able to show up and park 10 minutes before the doors open and be able to get the heck out of there and on my way back to Holly Springs as quickly as possible. I won't be one of those fans who looks to linger around the area for hours after a 7PM weekday night game ends.

Resurrecting this…

The mini-budget bill the governor signed allocates $35 million to improve traffic infrastructure around the arena. They’re building
a connector road along Wade Avenue, an extension of Wade Park Boulevard to create a new entrance into the development and the elevation of Stephen Stroud Way over Peter Karmanos Drive, which are the entry roads coming off Edwards Mill and Trinity Roads, respectively. The connector road along Wade should be particularly fun, extending the misery once the never ending construction of the Beltline interchange is finished.

I'm interested in seeing the construction docs of an elevation change at the intersection of the entry roads.. that's pretty flat ground to start with and a short approach distance from connecting roads, it could end up looking like a roller coaster hill or an underground tunnel

You can take the boy out of Michigan Technological University, but you cannot take the Michigan Technological University out of the boy.

Extended misery indeed. This project is going to take roughly forever.

And you can count me out on reviewing any construction documents. I'll let Bill handle that. I will say that you can often find general layout docs on the DOT's active project website after there's an actual construction contract in place.

Wade Park Blvd. ends at Edwards Mill. There is a walkway from EMR near Wade Park up to Peter Karmanos Drive that winds around because it’s straight uphill.

My current route into the parking lot is a left off EMR onto Steven Stroud Way and then a left onto Peter Karmanos Drive to go all the way around to the east side. I suspect that an elevation of that road will mean no turns off Stroud onto Karmanos and the only way to the east side will be between the arena and stadium. But if Wade Park eastbound can be accessed off EMR, that could be my new way, assuming I’m still going to games when the road construction is complete, which will be shortly before the lease expires in 2044.

I have the same in and out setup as you do currently and we have it all down to a science really. I takes me little time to park, little time to get back to my car, little time to get on Wade Avenue to 440/1 going South. I'm fearful the 'improvements' are going to be anything but for our in/out parking situation.

Any way you look at it, we're in for multiple years of having to be flexible and allowing WAY more time to get in and out. At least the team is good. Can you imagine dealing with all this mess a decade ago when the team was mired in the murky lower middle?

I said earlier in the thread, I have it incredibly easy. Turn right off my street onto Creedmoor Rd. Drive south for 10 miles, turn left onto Steven Stroud Way. Drive around, park in the East 2000 lot and Bob’s your uncle.
