Every department everywhere should do that periodically, yes?

Now for Mamdani specifically, in 2020 he posted on social media: "We don't need an investigation to know that the NYPD is racist, anti-queer & a major threat to public safety. What we need is to #DefundTheNYPD" and "There is no negotiating with an institution this wicked & corrupt... Defund it. Dismantle it. End the cycle of violence".

Now, we're all aware that if you post a 130-character sentence on Twitter, that sums up your entire worldview on any given topic and you can never ever be allowed to expand your point or better explain your opinion in more detail, ever since "nuance" was brutally murdered several years ago. Nor is anyone allowed to apologize for saying something dumb, or change their views, so tweets from 5 years ago must count as the word of God. But - as our wonderful AI overlords can summarize:

I don't understand the desire to let him just walk away from statements he has made several times in different ways. It's not just one tweet. These are his beliefs. But when he got deeper into his campaign, he had to back off so as to not alienate too many. So why don't you ask AI about some of the different instances:

The dude is only 34, and these quotes are all from 4-5 years ago when he was in his 20s. He has since worked a government job, learned a lot, gotten older and more mature, etc. I'm not saying that what someone said in the past is irrelevant or shouldn't be considered at all, but that they do need to be taken in context. If you believe that anyone who ever posted the hashtag #DefundThePolice should never be allowed to work in government, ever, that is your prerogative. I think it's silly though. As is ignoring all the debates that happened in 2020-21 about the role of police. I agree some of their budgets should be reviewed, and I agree (as Mamdani mentioned repeatedly during the campaign) that governments must find a better way to deal with mental illness and homelessness, as the police are not properly equipped or trained to deal with these issues, which would also free them to focus on more important crimes.

Also, he seems (and even seemed back then) to be very pro-LGBTQ for a supposed Jihadist, no?

Dude is only 34, so you should completely overlook several things that he said and did as a baby in diapers at 29 years old? What nonsense. He went and spoke at Defund the Police rallies just a few years ago, and he has said he believes in it several times.

I don't say that no one who ever tweeted it once should be blocked from public office. I believe in reviewing the budgets of every single agency and department for fraud, excess, and waste. But this is just one of the stupid and awful positions of this guy among countless others that you've focused on, and I think the reasonable thing to believe is that a guy who has thought this shit all his life didn't suddenly have a complete change of heart about it just as he's coincidentally running for public office. I mean, come the fuck on.

And yes, he for sure loves all gays. His religion loves them, the people in his native Uganda love them, his dear beloved Palestine loves them, and so do all of the people he fraternizes with like those who were implicated in plotting 9/11 or are known jihadists and radicals. So you believe that the tens of thousands of people who re-tweeted the hashtag #DefundThePolice during a national crisis where there were daily protests around the world about the fact that a police officer put his knee on a man's neck and pressed down for 9 minutes until he died, while he was being filmed, while he drove around in a car that said "To Serve and Protect" on the side, means that they must hate all police, have probably always hated police their whole lives, will almost certainly continue to hate police for the rest of their lives, and should never be allowed to hold public office as a result of a re-tweet? Man, you really take #Hashtags more seriously than anyone else I've ever met.
