Look, Matheson has been a pretty good fit there and a solidifying veteran presence in a pretty young D group. That said, he's a bigger guy who is unlikely to age well and you basically bought yourself two years of move-ability ... when the player is unlikely to be move-able. Congrats. I had thought that Montreal's front office was smarter than this. Matheson is the kind of guy you can find at basically every trade deadline and during absolutely every summer free agent market. There is zero reason to take on this kind of contract.

That's 100% what they're doing, but in the process the Flames are rewarding a front office that obviously has no gameplan for getting better in the long term and VERY little chance of getting better in the short term. I know their problems are largely ownership driven, but this is a giant middle finger to the portion of their fan base that's doing more than just rooting blindly for the home team.
 
Tough loss for the Isles. They're right in the playoff mix and Palmieri is their second leading scorer and their best breakout trigger.
 
Honestly, given the stats about accidents in the home, I'm surprised more guys haven't gotten hurt at home over the years. Just based on basic numbers, there should be 3 or 4 of these kinds of thigs a season.

Hell, I almost died 3 times installing 2 ceiling fans and a foyer light last week 🤣 Those radiation treatments on my head really did a number on my equilibrium and fine motor skills. I am clumsy as hell these days

Kevin Dineen was the first Hurricanes player I ever met. They were practicing at the Sports Plex in Hillsborough shortly after they came to the area. After practice, I asked Kevin if I could get a picture of him, and he said, "The picture's no good unless you're in it too." It seemed like he got as big a kick out of it as I did. Nice guy too, he took the time to chat about his brother, Gord, and his father, Bill. He seemed pleased that I knew of them.

Fox has put up enough excellent results in enough NHL games to give him a break on that performance, IMO. He's a permanent resident on my "list," but that doesn't mean I don't recognize that he's one of the best do-it-all defensemen in the NHL. If you can't figure out a way to get something out of that guy in a tournament setting, that's on the coaching staff. Note that the Team USA staff seemed surprised at how good both Slavin and Faber were ... which begs the question of how people who actually work in the NHL could be quite so stupid.

Clown show in Newark last night. Sheldon Keefe continues his unbroken record of being a clueless punk of a coach as his team somehow manages to turn a simple opponent digging at your goalie a beat too long into a half a thousand penalty minutes and an obvious injury to a defenseman. Oh, and stop encouraging Stef Noesen to fight. You're embarrassing yourselves.

The Devils failed that test several times last night. Don't be throwing punches with your gloves and and then expect the other guy to wait for you to get ready. Basic stuff, my dudes. Although, in Siegenthaller's case, his dance partner would have had to wait while he correctly attached his fighting strap. Idiot.

Kind of stunned that Dillon got back to the bench later on. Really?!?!

NJ analyst Ken Daneyko apparently always allowed his opponent to compose himself and get his gloves all the way off before Daneyko started throwing. I'm sure no one can find any video showing anything to the contrary.
