2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

The fact that blockbuster with the Wild giving up that much with no guaranteed extension in place is simply bonkers to me. What’s stopping Quinn from just jumping to New Jersey once that current contract expires…Vancouver gets a very nice return and I like the Buium kid a ton. Similar to what unfolded with Rantanen, Minnesota needed a long term extension in place to feel better with that trade.

Hughes is under contract for this season *and* next season. If you can't get him to commit long term before next season's trade deadline, trade him for a haul in return.

Exactly why I was suggesting Carolina stick their nose into a Q Hughes deal. There are two defensemen in the whole world who consistently drive play from the blueline at the NHL level and he's one of them. It's not like there's no market for him next year. In the mean time, go try and win a Cup.

That said, when I think about what the Canes would have had to give up ... whooo. The Wild gave up the equivalent of 3 first rounders (two of them players) and whatever you think Liam Ohgren can be. And one of those players is Zeev Buium who could easily be a No 1 D for a decade. He's not in Hughes' class, but neither is anybody not named Cale Makar.
 
Good on Nino. He's just gonna keep plugging away as a 30-something point PIA to play against for the rest of his 30s isn't he?
 
Good for Nino. I always liked him, but that could just be the good fuzzy feelings from that 2019 team. His teammates had special swag created for the milestone.

They’re at NHL .500! Problem is that every team in the East is NHL .500 or better. The West? Not so much.

Staal's only a consultant, so they probably have him under contract until the end of the season anyway. No reason to have to pay him out ... they can either listen or not, same as they've been doing.

I think Jarmo did an AWFUL job in Columbus, building a roster than was neither fish nor fowl and that never EVER suited any of their coaches. That said, he's a better personnel guy than Adams will probably ever be, so this is a move that makes sense in a vacuum. Their real issue is their craptackular ownership, which renders most of this stuff moot.

At least now their horrible, cursed fan base can whine about something else.
 
Adam’s hired Lindy Ruff, botched the Eichel situation and hasn’t been in the playoffs since he took the GM position. The reason for the delay in announcing the firing, Jarmo was in Finland due his dad’s death.
 
Adams is probably relieved that the burden of that job is no longer affecting his mental health and well being! He will land on his feet in an assistant GM role somewhere and he did well for his family in taking a few years of Pegula’s money while trying to fix that train wreck of a franchise.
