The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Would you do Knies for Werenski framework of a deal?

Just asking

That's Norris winner Zach Werenski....

This is what Vancouver did with Hughes, in making moves to keep him happy but then he loses..

Do you look to move off Matthews but not all just for picks. Matthews seems destined for San Jose.

See if you can get Will Smith...but would you take a package of Misa, Toffoli, 2nd overall pick and whatever.

My real wish though is for Connor and Mathews to be talking and mcdavid tells him he's coming regardless so just stay

Dreger and Lebrun are in a league of their own. They're borderline leaf trolls and extremely stupid people that no one should want to hear opine on hockey. CJ is catching up real fast. I think his heart is in the right place, but I think he gets used by agents and GMs and is too dumb to figure that out.

The guy fell for the "crypto will change the world" scam, so he's highly vulnerable to this stuff. Perfect target.
He seems like such a dummy. Easily manipulated.

If Weresnski is really available and his NMC isnt ridiculous, Leafs have a unicorn piece they can offer to satisfy NHL ready needs

I don’t want the Leafs to trade Knies at all, but Werenski is one of the few possible trade returns I’d be ecstatic with.

Only thing I don’t love is he’s only signed for this year and next. Not enough years of control for my liking and also in that sweet spot where we couldn’t negotiate an extension as part of the deal.

But if he was willing to waive his NMC to come here and open to the possibility of staying, I don’t see how you don’t pull the trigger.

If the team becomes cup contenders, have some real playoff success and be top 2-3 in the NHL for the next two years with Matthews and Werenski leading the charge, I personally wouldn't worry too much about being able to extend both of them.

But yeah that's a lot of ifs that have to go right. I'd be willing to risk it for sure, that's a rare opportunity.

I hate this idea that we can't play our rookies because they are not good enough. But I understand have a vet that you can count on being healthy to mentor.

Ride with Hildeby, if he isn't good enough bring up Arty.

If Bob is your veteran, he is your uncle.
