Went down to Pamlico County to shore things up. Full on panic mode down here. No gas. Groceries seem to be wiped. I need gas to get back to Raleigh! Lol.

Ugh ... good luck brother. Remember, the distributors usually bring gas on Tuesdays.

hardly ever hear about Pamlico county so I looked it up. 12k people so I guess that's why, and none of the town names are familiar to me. I hope the people there do OK just like I hope everyone does OK. Maybe we will get lucky and the storm stays out to sea.

High pressure system makes that very unlikely. Coming from someone that’s been through several hurricanes, please be prepared.

I've been thinkin' about a generator for years but never did anything about it, until now. Something about this one (beside the letter "F") got me spooked over the weekend and I ordered one (Amazon Prime, arriving Wednesday) and got the fuel, etc. ready yesterday. I had mono and slept the whole way through Hugo (which was worse in Charlotte than here, granted), we were out of town the week of Fran and were lucky enough to come back to only a messed up foyer floor from water blowing under the front door, and our son was born *during* Floyd (dodging trees down in the road on the way to the hospital and all.) Wonder what story I'll tell from this one.

While I still think the return in the Jeff Skinner trade was crap, let's remember here that Max Pacioretty >>>> Jeff Skinner in just about every way imaginable except for falling on his ass at which Skinner is an elite talent.

That 2nd round pick the Habs got was Columbus', so that will be a low 2nd round pick. And Tatar sure looked like useless crap last time we saw him play and he is getting paid $5.5, $5.5 and $4.2 over the next 3 seasons. Over the most recent 3 seasons he has had 45, 46, and 34 points. You could easily argue that the Habs deserved Suzuki for taking on Tatar's terrible contract.

For a much better player than Skinner, the Habs got a worse 2nd round pick, an overpaid forward still owed a lot of money, and Nick Suzuki. They SHOULD have gotten a better return than the Skinner trade and they did.

Skinner's 8 season career 579 games 204 Goals 175 Assists -96

Pacioretty's last 8 seasons 540 Games 220 Goals 203 Assists +44

I think we need to be realistic about the difference between Jeff Skinner and his trade value and Max Pacioretty and his trade value.

I agree Pacioretty is the better player, but not THAT much better. There numbers are pretty comparable, especially when you consider Montreal was a decent playoff team at least half the time during this period. They also has Carey Price in goal. Imagine how much better the +/- would be for Skinner if there was an actual goalie like Price to clean up the turnovers in Carolina? Flip the players/teams and the numbers would be near identical.

When it comes to F named storms, I am F'ing cursed! In college we hunkered in the dorms for Frederick and were without power for days and were stranded on campus. When I lived in eastern NC, it was Fran and Floyd. Now, here comes Florence-- I'm jinxed!

Jussi Jokinen signed a PTO with Detroit. He played for Edmonton, LA, Columbus and Vancouver last year and had a combined 5g, 12a in 60 games total.

It's rural, small town living for sure. Lots of vacation properties down there though. Between New Bern and Oriental. I strapped things down, brought stuff in, secured things, etc. The lower level storage rooms, I raised everything off the floor. The lower level has flooded about 18" before. House is elevated like a typical waterfront home though.

I suspect that's why every one panicked at once. Word spread that gas and groceries were going fast. I ended up buying gas a few hours later with only a 10 minute wait. Came back to Raleigh tonight.

My daughter gassed up tonight on her way home from work in Wilmington. Moved all her outdoor furniture into the house or garage and is headed to Raleigh tomorrow morning.

Skinner had the worst +/- (-27) last season on a team where 13 players were even or better for +/-.

It ain't the goalie.

UNC and NCSU cancelled classes for Thurs/Friday. I guess ABC/ESPN/CBS (who run college FB now) have not given the OK yet to cancel local FB games.

Pamlico County ordering evacuations. I guess those low lying areas are flood prone.

I've been around long enough to see quite a few hurricanes. And yet I'm always amazed how the news coverage continuously makes each one the biggest, strongest, worst ever.

also they are now doing the updated storm tracks every 3 hours instead of every 6.

one thing that is funny to me is the name "Superstorm sandy" I guess it became a "superstorm" because it hit NYC? I mean everything in NYC is bigger and the best!
