2018-19 Miscellaneous News Thread

What I really do not understand most about this garage league is the fact that they will pour over 100 still images and take 15 minutes to review an offside call on a questionable goal but a sudden death, playoff overtime controversial goal like last night is simply called "non-review-able"...that just makes zero sense no matter what team you cheer for. I saw the usual excuses being made again last night..."the game is simply too fast for the officials" to follow and "blame it on the GM's" for not having a rule in place on this type of play.

I think we have multiple problems with officiating and WAY too many people assume that more video reviews will somehow fix everything. The rule book is chocked full of garbage rules, holes and contradictions, as is the current review system. And we've seen just how often they screw up something as relatively straightforward as goaltender interference in the so-called war room.

START with fixing the rule book. THEN think about ways to take some pressure off of the refs. And definitely STOP being reactionary and only legislating based on bad results without slowing down to understand where those bad results come from.

I read a few sources online indicating that the four blind mice from Game 3 of the hand pass debacle in the Western Conference Final will not work another game in these playoffs moving forward. That group would include Jordan Staal's favorite face off warden Johnny Murray, who seems to think people pay $300 for tickets to see a linesmen drop a puck all night long.

Johny Murray would have never gotten anywhere near the playoffs if this league knew what they were doing. But it doesn't ... and never has.

Aaron Portzline, who covers Columbus for The Athletic, reports that John Davidson, President of Hockey Operations, is leaving the Jackets trot take a similar role the Rangers. He’s replacing Glenn Sather who retired at the end of the season.

Jarmo Kekalainen certainly has a rough summer ahead, the guy may have a lot of sleepless nights trying to figure out how many of those big name UFA's are bolting and who may be staying. If the Jackets bring back Matt Duchene, they also forfeit their 2020 first round pick after already trading away the first rounder to Ottawa this summer.

A lot of the Metro is in flux right now. Makes it hard to see where the Canes might land next year. The BJs are certainly a team that might and probably will take a hit. The Pens continue to flounder and age. Be interesting to see what they do. Some of the lower tier teams will improve. The Islanders need a lot of work up front. Etc.

To be fair, he pretty much asked for it. Davidson wasn't going to make it any easier. They took on this task with eyes wide open. Honestly, if they didn't go for it now, that roster was ripe for a churn anyway. Starting with their over-paid lunatic of a coach ... but that's a different subject.

Blues beat the Sharks 5-0 behind a Jaden Schwartz hat trick. Sharks melted down with Healey and Kane both picking up 10 minute misconducts. Blues can close it out at home on Tuesday.

I don't think they stand a chance, but it'll make a good underdog story... not to mention someone's going to bring up the Bobby Orr goal at some point...

Hard to believe it took the Blues 49 years to get back to a Cup Final and low and behold the same team you met 49 years ago is waiting for you again...

Here are the officials assignments for the final. They named 5 referees, likely due to the uncertainty of McCauley’s injury. Inexplicably, Kozari and Dwyer both made the final.

Referees:

Gord Dwyer #19 – 1st Cup Final
Steve Kozari #40 – 2nd Cup Final
Wes McCauley #4 – 7th Cup Final
Chris Rooney #5 – 4th Cup Final
Kelly Sutherland #11 – 6th Cup Final

Linesmen:

Derek Amell #75 – 7th Cup Final
Scott Cherrey #50 – 2nd Cup Final
Greg Devorski #54 – 4th Cup Final
Pierre Racicot #65 – 10th Cup Final
