2018-19 Miscellaneous News Thread

I disagree, solely because the tsn (cough Toronto) headlines, "Button: McAvoy 'absolutely' deserves supplemental discipline". Saw another reporter say he should get a 1 game suspension. Relating to the play, looked like a little weasel after the play

I'm not liking this matchup, but not sure if I'd have felt any better matching up against the BJs. Not looking forward to witnessing the poor officiating continue here... its really has started to make the headlines this p-offs. Sad.

The Caps were way dirtier than the Bruins have been this playoffs. Not to say the Bs won’t crank it up. Maybe they’ll perceive the Canes as less able or willing to retaliate and try to take advantage of that.

This should be a good matchup so long as the Canes don’t come out too rusty and get too far behind and get rattled. But we will only have had 5 days off which isn’t too bad. That’s roughly what a team gets in the bye week. So they should at least have some recent experience to draw on there.

Frankly, I'm not sure it matters who we face - both the Bruins and the BJs are heavy-hitting, formidable opponents. In a weird way, I'm happy that it's the Bruin's, since they'll be the favorites and I'd rather we're in the position of being the underdog once again. Of course, losing the home ice advantage sucks....but maybe after a "long" rest, it's better to play on the road.

A lot of people are already punching Boston's ticket to the finals. Pretty much a done deal. Just need to quickly run over the Canes.

McAvoy has a hearing with the Department of Player Safety, so maybe there will be a suspension. If he was only going to get fined, they’d have done that without a hearing.

I see absolutely no way McAvoy avoids a suspension. That hit was BS ... direct to the head and despite his protestations, he had PLENTY of opportunity to target the chest. He didn't. Even slightly bent over, Anderson is a big boy and presented a big target.

Textbook suspend-able hit, Anderson was already tied up with Chara, so there was no need whatsoever for McAvoy to go head hunting on that play other then the fact that he saw a great opportunity to lay him out. Targeted the head, defenseless player, I still cannot believe McAvoy was boasting after the game it was a hockey play. It's at least a game suspension, maybe 2, but likely just one since he is not a repeat offender. And anyone who tries to measure a hit based on if the guy comes back or was hurt badly is almost as clueless as the guy throwing the head hit...saw way too many Bruins fans and even Boston media saying Anderson is a big boy and can take it!

Canes have no chance canes aren't fit to hold an Original Six teams Jock... Color me unsurprised. No I don't really believe that. But a bunch of Boston fans do..

You will get a large brigade of Bruin fan idiots at PNC delivering that same message all series long, the first two rounds were Pleasantville compared to what this will be, which makes it really that much more satisfying when/if the Canes win.

The NHL does this all the time. (Maybe your point was that the NHL is clueless.) Whether there was a serious injury is always a point in the Player Safety videos. So, for him to take that position, right or wrong, is just him following the NHL's playbook. The lack of injury and the fact that he's not a repeat offender are really all he's got as far as a mitigating circumstances. But was it a hockey play? Not a chance.

Just because they do it all the time does not make it right, (so yeah call it clueless)...it's absurd that the penalty is based on if the guy has a massive head wound or maybe just scrambled brains in a couple weeks...last night screams of the officials remembering what happened to O'Halloran and his buddy in round one and not wanting that to happen again, so take the high road, call it a minor penalty and not have much affect on the result of the game and maybe Kozari and his buddy get to work the next round..

I'm not saying its right, just that its the way it is. The NHL is hardly the only organization that handles punishment this way. It's pretty commonplace for victim impact to be considered in sentencing. If you shoot someone and they die you will get punished much more severely than if they happen to live. In some measure, you are punished for your action and in some measure for the result of your action.

I guess when it comes to textbook head hits, they really need to just be more black and white when it comes to punishment. If they at least took those kinds of hits more seriously consistently, the players would perhaps understand the punishment is not worth the crime.

I knew that crap was a mistake when they decided to wear those uniforms. Idiots like LeBrun will continue to take jabs.

They've been the Hurricanes longer than they were ever the Whalers. And way more successful.

Dundon's money grab with the team wearing Whaler uniforms and the re-tethering of the org to the Whale set us up for that. We deserve the jibes and lip on that-- I hate it and while it was a fun game, it was just a bad idea. I hope the owner got the monies and hype he wanted.
