2019-20 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

Canes seeking $250k funding for 2021 stadium game. Also a concert would be held the night before the game, I assume in PNC arena.

They’ve already gotten a commitment of $125k from The Convention and Visitors Bureau, with the expectation that they’d increase it to $200k. The Centennial Authority will vote on the request in April. Approval from the Authority will also help them secure funding from the State, Wake County, the city and Raleigh Chamber of Commerce.

The Authority also got a 2 hour update on the progress of lease negotiations. Chairman Tom McCormick characterized their negotiations as “very positive’. He said they’re not there yet but closer to where they feel comfortable.

$250k is like pocket change. Of course it would also be pocket change to Dundon. Since the amount is that low I expect it is approved without much discussion.

McCormick talked in the article like it was a foregone conclusion that it would be approved.

Simmonds adds nothing to our mix of any value and I'm not 100% certain Carolina wouldn't be as well off promoting a D than adding Vatanen. I could be talked into Dillon.

Well, if I got to choose a replacement for Fleury or TVR and my choices are Vatanen or Dillon, I would take Dillon. But that for sure can be debated either way.

If the cost is a 2nd round pick and a prospect like Jesper Sellgren then by all means, get one of them. Don't trade Gauthier, don't trade Bean, and don't trade Fleury and certainly don't don't trade our or Toronto's 1st round pick.

Yup. No matter what happens, unless you can trade for a real impact player then let's make sure we keep those two 1st Rounders. Don't go throwing one of those around for a freaking rental ... not when being a real Cup contender is off the table. Screw that.

Vatanen gives us another right hand shot so Edmundson doesn’t have to play his off side. But that’s it. Dillon is 8th in the league with 167 hits, 53 more than Staal and 78 more than Edmundson, who has the most among dmen. Martinook leads the team in hits/60 minutes with 8.16, which is 86th in the league.

I don't care abut the hitting nearly as much as the expected goals against share. Dillon is a solid defender on a crap defense. He's the kind of guy you can play against tough lines, unlike anyone he'd be replacing in Carolina's current rotation.

read somewhere the other outdoor game next season is going to be announced this Sat the 15th. But it might have been speculation.
Don't think that the financing has been approved to the point of a formal announcement. Last I heard, that's close though.

NHL could assume the money will be approved. It's pocket change to Dundon anyway. He could just say he'll pay it if somehow it does not get approved by the CA.

If the League did set that date for the announcement, I would assume that the Canes knew about it and told the CA. But they’re not voting on the money until April. Which doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Got the email that 20-21 season tix info will be going out soon. I fully expect that there will be a pretty sizable increase in prices across the board. The team is viable again, we are spending to the cap, and there are a lot more STMs.

A 10% increase at a minimum? I actually would consider that level of increase justified. Then again, my per seat price is only $54 a game...10% is steep for tickets above that price point. I'm thinking that prices almost have to go up quite a bit this time.

On a % basis, the mezzanine increased the most last year, from $55 to $60, a 9.1% increase. But they also introduced 2 new sections of Pure Hockey pricing on the first day of SAS, so new that the tags on the seats had the wrong price, in the last 5 rows of 116 and 122. They were only $50 so I jumped on them. I expect at least 10% increase there.

When I did some focus group stuff for the design team working on the arena redesign it was broadly hinted that 5-10% increases would be the standard until the seating configuration changes to allow for more premium seating. So, yeah. Expect 10%, hope for 5%, throw a little internal party if it's less than that ... and you'll be in the right head space.
