2019-20 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

Concerts at CF stadium have had traffic problems because people don't know to arrive early. People arrived late or just went home. Hopefully they can tell people to arrive early . Locals know that but visiting team fans probably don't know it if they are not local.

I was surprised at the ease of ingress and egress at the U2 and Stones concerts. The U2 egress was marred by a credentials check at the intersection of Edwards Mill and Reedy Creek though.

The U2 concert was a traffic disaster at the front and back ends. It took me about an hour to get my car out of the lot afterwards and we had hightailed it out of the stadium after the show. We were in the CF lot east of the stadium and north of Trinity and really not far from the exit to Trinity. The issue was all the pedestrians streaming across Trinity. Hopefully the tunnel has remedied that.

never had a problem at a CF concert since I know to leave early. Anybody who thinks they can leave home 30 minutes before the show is just plain dumb.

Getting out is different than FB because people can leave FB early if it's a blowout either way. If the Pack is down a lot at the half some people just stay at their tailgate and never go back in. For example Clemson last season was over by the half., 42-0

I wonder if a band/singer has agreed to play a show the night before. They said it would be a big name. Maybe J Cole since he has worked with the Canes and he's local

How is the traffic getting to a popular NC State football game? With so many out of towners who have never traversed the PNC Arena/Carter Finley/NC Fairgrounds area before I would expect traffic for this Stadium series game to be a concern. Those of us who know better will show up 3+ hours earlier and just hang out.

It's hit and miss. Incoming traffic can be badly impacted for weeknight games by the slightest little thing. A wreck on I40 ... common enough for an average rush hour ... can mean people get stuck in their cars for an hour or more when they're in sight of the stadium lights. Other than that, the best to use as a judge are probably State/Carolina games because that game is always packed and draws the highest number of fans who don't go to every game ... both of the red and blue variety. Unless we're tailgating (which we do less now that my parents are getting up there age-wise) I always allow an extra half hour for the Carolina game and never make plans afterwards ... and it usually works out fine.

As a veteran of pushing 50 years of games at Carter Finley ... if you aren't tailgating super early, I'd recommend that you allow 60-90 minutes on top of how long it normally takes you to get to the area on a non-game day. If the Beltline construction still has an impact by this time next year (and it will, probably) then add another half an hour. So yeah ... 2 to 3 hours before puck drop, depending on your standard drive time. That's what I've done for major concerts and it's been fine for the most part. It's what I did for the All Star Game as well.

I suppose it would be asking too much for the Hurricanes front office to start coordinating with local municipalities right now to come up with a plan to bus in fans sort of like the bus system for the State Fair.

I was told that they already have a mass transit committee in place. Not that that guarantees results, but at least somebody's thinking about it. While they're thinking they should entertain the idea of swapping the traffic control contract to the Highway Patrol for that one game. They handle State football games and do a MUCH better job than RPD does for State basketball and the Canes games.

High rollers and many other people have reserved FB parking spots. They can show up whenever they want. Some show up right at kickoff time. Lots are closed until 5 hours prior to kickoff. And some tailgate after the game too. There are people who set up Direct TV dishes for the tailgate. It used to be tailgating started at 8 AM but then they had 2 guys get killed at a tailgate and they decided to put in more rules. Many fans not happy with the 5 hour rule but it's been around for a while now . Probably won't change until a new chancellor takes over and maybe not even then . And as I mentioned above fans can leave at halftime which is rare. Some SEC schools allow that , don't know if any other ACC teams allow it. they will probably ban leaving at halftime once they upgrade concessions. In case you missed it starting last season State and UNC can now sell beer and wine in the stadium. No problems were caused by that.

from twitter:

The coronavirus outbreak has forced a shut down of factories in China that manufacture Bauer & CCM hockey sticks That means the NHL could have a shortage.

I assume high end sticks are made in Canada or US? Maybe not , other high end stuff still made in 3rd world sweatshops, like clothes. $300 shirts often made in same place $30 shirts.

Nope. All Bauer and CCM sticks are made in China. Warrior sticks are made in Mexico. None here or Canada.

Given the rate at which they've been breaking this season, this could become an issue. It wont impact the NHL first, of course. They'll get priority over the minors, college and juniors. It might be smart for guys to test out a few Warrior models just in case.

I guess the Warrior factory could add a 2nd or 3rd shift if needed for demand if the shortage is long term. Assuming they only work 1 shift now

So here is my next question about the outdoor game:

Season Ticket Members will be guaranteed first access to pre-sales for the game.

Soooooo...…does that mean that STMs have to purchase their tickets to the outdoor game separately from our STM ticket package? Expect to only have 42 (40 regular season and 2 pre season games) in our ticket package for 2020-21 AND then have to fork over a separate chunk of change depending on what tickets you purchase for the outdoor game?

I know we will probably find out when the 2020-21 season tix info goes out in a couple of days, but anyone have a guess as to how this plays out for the outdoor game? I'm getting the impression that the outdoor game will be a separate cost for STMs, giving the opportunity to soak everyone, including STMs, via the separate cost for these tickets.

I hope that's not the case - if it is, it's a slap in the face to those of us who have supported this team through thick and thin. But before I go ballistic, do we know how other stadium games have been handled? Did those home teams charge their STHs for this game? If I were a marketing genius, I might use the outdoor game's inclusion in the package as a reason to become a STH, but hey, what do I know?

From a quick look around at 3 or 4 previous stadium series games they all seem to have sold tickets to the event outside the STH package.

However, all seem to honor access to ticket sales on a Full -> Partial -> general public basis with discount promo codes for the purchase and generally a limit of 8 tickets per account.

I wouldn't take it as a slap in the face. It's not every day you get one of these things, and they SHOULD leverage the crap out of it. That said, don't be jerking me around on access and limits either. Full STHers should get first shot and they should be able to purchase a goodly number of tickets. That way we can get some of our money back on re-sale.

I’m guessing STM will be allowed at least 6.

I never expected this game to be included in the season ticket package just like All Star game was not included. For 1 thing how do they figure out where to put you in a different place? People may want to sit in a different location than they sit at PNC

I don't expect Warrior to make sticks the same as CCM and Bauer. I meant they could add shifts to produce their designs.
