2019-20 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

If they pay me I will take the organ .
I wouldn't take it even if they paid me. The thing is huge ... and hideous. I've got a buddy in the organ biz and he told me that you'd have to spend more than the thing is worth to refinish it so that it would be suitable for use in a church. And a church is about the only practical landing place.

I would think a small church would take the organ for free , I don't think a new paint job would be that pricey. Although this is bad timing, they could take the organ and fix it up later when they have cash.

No media for the workouts so I guess we will just get Canes staff giving info and pictures.

File this under “Here We Go Again”

John Forslund’s contract expires today. Tripp re-signed on Monday, but the team is still negotiating with Forslund. Luke says the new deals have been substantially altered and reduced. The new deals would make them independent contractors, paid mostly per game and based on team revenue. So if there are no fans, there won’t be as much revenue, even though there would probably be more fans watching the broadcast.

Obviously, Forslund has options. There could be an increased role at NBC, new Hall of Famer Rick Peckham retired in Tampa (Forslund replaced him once, right?) and Ron Francis needs a guy in Seattle.

In other news of expiring contracts, the team continues negotiating with assistant coach Dean Chynoweth and hockey operations VP Paul Krepelka. Rick Dudley and massage therapist Tristan Simmons are leaving.

Forslund is too good and too classy to be low balled and be forced into a contract that is structured like that. The guy is basically on the cusp of taking over the top National gig for NBC once Doc Emrick is gone. This sadly could be the end for Forslund here, which would be terrible in my opinion. Sorry but Jason Shaya as a future play by play guy here would be like nails on a chalkboard for Canes fans.

Based on pictures it looks like Ryan Suzuki and Steven Lorentz are in town practicing.

Would be bad to lose Forslund but there will be more than 1 guy who wants the job. Don't assume they hire the Checkers guy.

His tone and some of his catch phrases remind me of Joe Beninati from the Caps. That ain’t a compliment. IMO, only Edwards is worse than him.

If the Canes lose John, I'll take the reins. I'm probably very good at it. Never done it, but that shouldn't matter.

Wait...no! I can't do it. I'm not able to grow such glorious sideburns. And @jeffbear is out. All he would do is yell at the refs the entire game.

N&O had an intern write a Canes story today. I know some media interns don't get paid and the way things are now I would expect she gets minimal pay at most.

Chip Alexander has been writing lead stories on COVID for the N&O, they need someone to handle the Canes duties.

Even when Chip is actually working the beat, they still need someone to actually handle reporting on the Canes. Because ... yeah.

I'm also good for pointing out when the opposing coach is a bridge troll.

On that note, I saw where Lindy Ruff is the favorite for the Devils job.

Im not really following this too closely, but if Forslund gets an offer to do his thing nationally, I doubt The Canes would be able or willing to match it. Woops, looks like hes already gone.

Sounds like Forslund wanted guaranteed, 82 game money but intends to do a LOT of games for NBC. I honestly can't blame either side for how this panned out. The Canes wanted to pay him for "games worked". And his intentions were to keep adding more and more NBC games to his schedule.
